Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Will Windows 9 make V11 obsolete?

Will Windows 9 make V11 obsolete?

Just asking if it is going to be like when Windows 8 came out and V10.5 would not run on it. Will this also be the case that V11 will not be set to allow running on Windows 9?

On the other hand you can wonder did Windows 8 make Windows 9 obsolete. Where do we need it?

I think you mean did Windows 8 make Windows 7 obsolete. Well in a way it did because new off the shelf machines come with Win 8, now Win 8.1 installed so you have to keep up with what the consumers are buying.

The reason I asked was because I have a desktop app that I sell. V10.5 will not run on Windows 8 and V11 is not stable on all Windows 7 and lower machines so I now have to create two different version of my software. One for XP - 7 and another one for W 8.

Why do you say that? In my experience v11 is completely stable on WIN7 and XP.

No I did mean Windows 9.

The problem you described above is in fact funny and explains the whole problem in Windows today?. Do you still want to try with Windows 9? Do you have alternative road to go?

Personal experience. So far it has been about a 15% incompatibility rate experienced among my customers. It is an issue with the codejock ocx files and the A5ContextEval.dll and a5controls.dll not registering. To get around that you have to turn off UAC or Run as Administrator each time.

My customers also run a lot of high end graphics design software so I do not know if that has any thing to do with it or not.

If you do not like Window what are you doing using a development platform that only runs on Windows?

I posted to ask the simple question if V11 will be able to run on Window 9. Not to get into a debate about Windows.

Re: Will Windows 9 make V11 obsolete?

When I jumped to widows 7, many of my old faithful programs did not make the transition and going to widows 8 and win8.1 even more have dropped by the wayside. A few each time have had a version jump(at cost) to go forward. Some are just unusable.
My thought is that alpha v11 will not make the jump, although win 10.5 did not work on win8 at first and now it does with a little help. Go figure that one out.

Back when ms jumped up with their 32 bit from 16 bit, some programs never made that offereing and ms relaxed some of their requirements. They did not advertise it though.
I think the same thing happened with win7 and win8.

If you are having problems with codejock.ocx then that is not an Alpha problem.

Read the post. There are also problems with the A5ContextEval.dll and a5controls.dll not registering. And V11 will not work with the codejock files from V10.5 which would resolve part of the problem if it did.

But I am not here to debate that.

I don't know what you mean by "which version", Ted? But what I said in Post #4.

Is it not stable for you?

Version 11 works fine on Windows 7. Windows 8 came out before Alpha Anywhere, so Alpha did the legwork or paperwork or whatever was required so that v11 would also work on Windows 8. If I had to guess, the subscription-centered model of Alpha Anywhere will be upgraded to work on future versions of Windows, but Alpha won't have any good reason to make v11 compatible on future versions of Windows.

I agree with you Chris that Alpha is unlikely to make any changes to v11. But there are many "good reasons" to make v11 compatible with Win8 and IE11, namely good customer relationships, product support and company reputation. Ideally Alpha would support the previous version for at least one year (after the 'current" version comes out) or until the next version comes out. That said, I'm not expecting miracles.

You did not say whether the version was the last officially approved version or the "not for production" version Peter.
They closed off v11 Peter as you well know. No fixes, no updates.
