Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Shift + Insert = Paste, is it possible for Ctrl + Insert = Copy? (in the code editor)

Is there any way to enable Ctrl + Insert in the code editor, so it copies highlighted text to the clipboard (i.e. same as Ctrl + C)

I mouse with my left hand, so it's much easier for me to use Ctrl + Insert to copy

In fact, 20+ years of ingrained habit using Ctrl + Insert to copy, it's basic instinct like touch typing.

I've looked through the settings but can't find any keyboard options.

The funny thing is, Shift + Insert = Paste

so whenever I do a copy + paste, what happens is I end up pasting the previous thing from the clipboard, (not the code I wanted to copy paste).

Is any workaround possible to enable Ctrl + Insert?

I am not sure where it did not work
I just tested this ( not that I knew of this shortcut before)
this works as you expect in
xbasic code editor, after dialog validate event editor.
and a new trick learnt today.
    thanks for reading

      Thanks for testing Gandhi.

EDIT: Turns out it's the particular keyboard I am fond of (I have at 5 of a particular Microsoft keyboard and use them everywhere)

The strangest thing is, Ctrl + Insert works normally using any other program

And I have Alpha v12 IDE installed on my laptop, and also installed on the local server (which is the machine running the Alpha Server that I publish the A5W's and components to)

One computer is Vista, the second computer is Windows Server 2008.

For both of those computers, and separate installations of Alpha v12 IDE,

the Ctrl + Insert copy command does nothing at all, only when inside Alpha.

But Ctrl + Insert copy works fine in all other programs on both computers.

Guess I will have to try and find a new favourite keyboard

Bill Gates made sure to have this functionality disabled on all Windows licenses sold to Australia as part of a grand plan to take over the world through frustrating coders; the only people who use keyboard shortcuts....

Actually my gut feeling is it's the PS2 to USB converter I use.

My (soon-to-be-ex) favourite keyboard was popular around 2000 or so, and only has PS2 plugs, I bought some PS2 to USB converters.

If I use a native-USB keyboard then copying with Ctrl + Insert works inside Alpha.

Strange that I've never had a problem with Ctrl + Insert for any other software though...

Oh well time for me to get with the times and upgrade to a native USB keyboard.

The problem is nearly all of them have the Insert and Delete key where I like them to be.

          Time to retrain my brain
