Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How to publish mySQL database to Host Server?

Hi, I am new to this and am trying to figure out some fundermentals. I have a basic ZebraHost with MySQL. I have created a simple Alpha Anywhere application that includes a single grid component with connection string to one table on my local machine. I can publish to localhost and it all works fine. When I try to publish to the ZebraHost server most of the application works but it obviously has not transfered my MySQL database and table. Any suggestions? Thanks, David in the UK.

Re: How to publish mySQL database to Host Server?

depends on how you are managing your MySQL database. if you are using one of the gui agents like navicat, toad or workbench then you should be able to do there.
connect to your local database and dump the content to a sql file, then connect to the other database that you have in zebrahost and execute the sql file. the data will be there.
then you will need to address the connection string alias in your project so that it looks properly to the database either locally or remote published location.
i do not know if they have anything new in version 12 to help this out.

        Use Navicat's "Data Transfer" feature.

Re: How to publish mySQL database to Host Server?

Thanks that is also helpful. I am getting there in small steps!

Obviously my host has set up MySQL on the server but I don't have Navicat installed remotely and I suppose you wouldn't normally. Looking at the Data Transfer feature as you suggested: the left (Source) side of the form is OK - I have my local connection and database.

However, I am not too sure about the right (Target) side?? Do I use Connection or File?

You connect using the same steps you did with local computer, except the IP address to be used instead of localhost for server.
I have the navicat lite there I don't have data transfer but the steps will be as above.

Re: How to publish mySQL database to Host Server?

You have to set up a connection for the Zebra MySql in Navicat. Once you have that, you can transfer.

I am still not quite there...

In Navicat I can set up a connection to MySQL which is on my local development machine which I did a while ago and I have my Database. But how do I make a connection to MySQL on the remote server? How do I know or generate the remote connection? I have login details, e.g. root and the password supplied by ZebraHost, but Navicat is on my machine not the server.

I'm sure it is simple when you know how but I don't quite understand the process yet!

                  David.

You don't need Navicat on the server. You only need to know the ip address, port # (typically 3306), MySQL user name (often "root") and MySql password. If you are not sure about those, contact Zebra.

OK, that is helpful and I know these parameters: IP address, root, etc. So - just to confirm - do I need to create this remote connection within Navicat or do I have to do a Remote Desktop Connection to my ZebraHost Server and do something there?

Thanks for your patience Peter, much appreciated. David.

                        In the navicat
Click new connection and fill in the information and you are set to go
