Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    From Access, With Thanks

I recently transitioned from Access to Alpha. I don't have very many DBs under my belt, and no programming with the exception of minor webpage editing (think MySpace) and a little game modding. I spend the last 3-4 months creating a contact quote-to-invoice system for the construction company I work for in Access. In the end, it was great, but not so multi-user friendly, and SharePoint only plays well with web apps, so I was on a search for an alternative. After trying out Zoho, QuickBase and Access Web App, Alpha caught our attention and has let it go. In two weeks, I have completed about 50% of what it took me months to do with Access, and that was with using a template as a reference. It is just astonishing to me how Alpha does things so intuitively (yet never taking away your options) that other programs force you to do manually with half a dozen steps.

My biggest reluctance to switch from Access to Alpha was the lack of developer material. There are plenty of forums and articles on the Internet for Access developing, but Alpha is not so well-known. All of my worries were dissolved, however, after I spent one minute looking at this forum. I have never found a one-stop site for a community so knowledgeable and helpful for Access like I have found here.

This software is truly amazing, and I thank each one of you for making it stronger by creating such an awesome community. One day I'll be contributing more than just questions myself.

I must say that I have found again Access and use it just like Excel daily. Access development team did have a fresh start and moving to right direction now. You CAN publish to SharePoint Online and with Office 365 this is a good combination. As always right software to right job.

You can publish to SharePoint, but within certain limitations. They also have web apps, but in my opinion, they are in their infancy, but will get better with time.

You you are right, it does come down to the right software for the right job, and I believe that AA has that locked down when it comes to mobile and web applications. Unfortunately I did not know about AA until a month ago so I am now putting aside my VBA programming knowledge and learning JS and XBasic as I make this app, so hte process is taking longer. If I was proficient in these languages I am sure that I could have this app made in less than two weeks. At least the core portion of it.
