Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

So when is V13 due out?

The special offers are really hard to ignore, and I'm sorely tempted.
Problem is that I suspect a new version is imminent.

There is not even an announcement of pre-beta for V13 so that takes a while with a subscription is definitely good for 12 months or longer. The special offer has nothing to do with it, I think.

I agree - and feel the subscription model is tops. I believe it is worth every penny to me. It is exciting to see the alert when I fire up alpha and I check the pre-release builds all the time. I wish there was a way to see all of the pre-release build information that is written. It seems like you can learn as much there as anywhere...

IBM had a way of selling more kit between releases.
They called it a "mid life kicker" and started advertising and making special pricing offers.
I also noticed that Selwyn seems to be CEO now.

in fact i don't care what person is in charge , i simple look at the roadmap what is to come and if it will match my plans for business or not. Even if you could become future king on the throne of England. if you succeed well done!, "tally ho" i wish you all the best. btw i am joking. The roadmap is very clear you will find it if your search for Selwyn last presentation at the Boston conference 2014

The roadmap was very promising but Alpha needs now to focus on something. We got quite full stack now.

Normally new version means that company has taken big step in software development: a totally new version.

If you compare Microsoft Office 2010 and 2013 you see that there is huge difference (full cloud integration). Also the direction/focus can change for example Microsoft Access was totally different product before. In my opinion current version is now far more better with Sharepoint integration (and with SQL server backend).

If somebody think that you can just add...and add...and add...and add.. features to a software thinking you got better software I do not think so at all. You got just too full stack.

Maybe next version is again old version + one new component.
We need new much compact version with fully utf-8 support and with new ideas.

                    I doubt it.

Much more compact version - yes.
New ideas. Always welcome, although I think they have been creative. But yeah, more new ideas.

Take a look at the Agenda for the developer conference and there is an interesting session planned called Alpha Tablet.
Could this be a compact version that can be loaded as an app in the same way that Filemaker works.???

It is a new development model for "tablet-tuned" forms as a clipboard replacement. Stay tuned.

Re: So when is V13 due out?

As I mentioned in earlier post in this thread the last road map was very promising.
The most important was the role of javascript in the roadmap.

The fact is that everything is today happening around javascript.
There is no sense anymore to not learn and use it in software development.
Today javascript runs in client side and in serverside .
Think. Just one language to learn. Thats all you need.

Many are very worried about the role of xbasic in the future.
But he major problem with Alpha has been xbasic ( and xbasic server. IIS will not solve this). You need to use them.
                            Xbasic is the bottleneck.

So xbasic has been must in Alpha development but now when they already have bring node.js (and express) to Alpha it is not anymore.

So my idea to Alpha is that Alpha creates new component that is totally 100% javascript : server side and client side.
They should also abondon A5.js and bring Angular as frontend in this component.
Also at first just Mongodb support so that you do not need to use(learn) sql at all.
We Alpha developers would get full javascript stac ( infact Mean stack).

                            So everybody has then choice.
Continue to use xbasic components OR familiarise oneself with javascipt component and enjoy routing and friendly urls with lightning fast server.

Re: So when is V13 due out?

I agree with Ken in most of what he says and certainly with the core thoughts.
Html, javascript, jquery and even php all work well together. Which db to use? I still lean toward MySQL/mariadb because they can go to almost any hosting Service.
Other web rad platforms have "functions" prebuilt in JS like alpha has in xbasic. It would be nice to see more of that in alpha.
Of all the tools out there, I know of none that does not have a lot of JS involved.

If you need to cross platform, mssql, xabasic will be a road block. It is super helpful that there are many more sources in hosting that are supplying windows servers.
