Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Application Server Activation

I have not used my v12 application server for many years now, and exactly as before the activation is coming up with the message to close UAC etc. I have disabled the UAC rebooted the PC and the message to disable UAC still shows when trying to activate. I thought after 7 years this issue would have been addressed. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thank you

It is possible to turn off UAC using the Registry Editor.
    • Open Windows Registry : Start > run> type regedit.
    • Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System. ...
    • In the right pane, modify the value of the EnableLUA DWORD value to 0: ...
    • Restart your computer.

    This works best.

Hi Allen, thank you so much for sharing that useful tip with me. Now the second issue. After attempting to activate with the UAC disabled, I now get this message:-
Error: Your V12 license cannot be activated using this activation system. Please install the latest patch available to you and activate again.
I have already applied the latest patch for v12 Application server (3 times), but can't get past this issue.

Just to let you know, when I was on here last, I was aware of certain issues with basic things like this activation process, and other annoying issues. I thought after all this time things would have improved with the way things are done at Alpha.... I was clearly wrong about that for sure.

Any magic tricks you can suggest for this latest problem. ?

Really appreciate that there are good people on here always happy to help. Good work guys. I would have given up long ago if you good people were not on this forum.
      Massive thanks.
      Fred

Hi Ted, thank you for your reply. I sincerely hope not, as when I purchased this version there were no subscription plans from what I remember. I personally would rather jump off a cliff than be tied into an expensive subscription plan for something I do not use that frequently.

          Kind regards

You seem to be using an extremely old release of Alpha Anywhere, one from early 2014 or prior. You will need to install at least build 2399 in order to be able to activate.

Hi Lenny, thank you for your message. Yes indeed this is a very old version. Running the App server update did not fix the issue, but when I ran the Developer update, all is now working.
I have completely lost track as to what the latest version is? Are there any special deals going to upgrade to the later versions? I assume it's still yearly subscription's which would not be viable for me as I am now just an occasional user. Best regards. Fred

You would need to contact your account representative about upgrade options. If you're not sure who that is, you can just email sales @ alphasoftware.com
