Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Developer Support

Is it just me or is it difficult to find someone to get paid to provide support for development work? I don't know if this forum is the place but I have attempted to get help, but it seems if anyone even responds it is almost impossible to get much follow-up. I guess everyone is very busy, which is a good thing. I have never had a problem finding people to take my money, it is always finding the right person. Any ideas on how to engage others to help?

Yes, not really getting any traction there. Great group, and learning a lot from the webinar each week, but looking for more a lot sooner. Not enough hours in the day to pour through videos and documentation with people out there that have already crossed those bridges.

I seem to remember Alpha Software offering paid help. I believe it just takes a phone, a description of the task/goal, and a method of payment.

Have done that, some good and some bad. Costly, not necessarily due to the rate but the time it took to accomplish the tasks. I was hoping to connect with an independent company that could provide expertise and mentoring at the same time. Prefer to be able to fully understand how to manage and support the products, and that means fully knowing how it works. There is a lot I can do but seem to hit a spot about 50-80% of the way that really needs some more expertise to get to the finish line.

I sent you a couple private messages about company and an individual I have use. Either could probably help you out.

There are a lot of knowledgeable people in here. Some are better at certain parts over others.
Much like different departments of various companies.
I do great with sql (especially mysql ) and xbasic, but struggle with html and javascript.
Others are reversed. Why not give people a chance to demonstrate their strengths.

One last thing, I think it's called the triangle of service. Speed, Price, and Quality. you can only have 2 of the 3.

I appreciate the comments and messages I have received. Here are the specific items I am looking for support:

                1. Complete development of mobile app for both ios and android. I estimate that I am about 70% complete but need help with completion
                2. Add a calendar feature to our existing web app. I realize Alpha has the new calendar feature, but it may not be out for a while, so using the existing options would be best.
                3. Optimize existing report features and integrate a email feature from a mobile device or web.

Once again, thanks for those that provided feedback.

The problem you have bumped into is most people with the knowledge you need are involved solving their own daily issues. Also AA can be many things to many people and most have a different approach on how to be develop an application as there is no specific method promoted to do any particular thing other than to help understand how something works, not the when and what for of that something. Also at 70% complete thats a lot of review time and understanding as to what you have done to achieve that number, My suggestion is you do a 10 Minute video on what you have done and share it, then you are more likely to get contributors to the solution you need as it may ring a bell with someone. Most developers will always want to just re-write as its easier than repairing or adapting. So give the video a go - you never know who will chip in to help. Show you database and your basic approach to the build.
