Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Exploring Alpha Anywhere Software

I am a newby to the use of Alpha Anywhere software and have just joined this message board. My question is, What happens to my Alpha Anywhere or Alpha TransForm developed and Published/deployed applications on expiration of my subscriptions?

    #2
Depends on what you mean by expiration of subscription. Your software subscription entitles you to updates - the software would continue to run and operate. If you are paying for hosting as part of your subscription and do not pay it then of course hosting would go down, just like any other hosting service offered on the web today. If you have any concerns, call Alpha Software directly - they will be able to answer any and all of your questions. There are lots of people on older products who never moved to the subscription model - but I wouldn't let go of mine, I find the improvements well worth the cost and the team at AS is always there for you - absolutely the best product support you can ask for. I would bet that every single seasoned developer here has submitted an error of their own doing - and those bugs that are found that are NOT user error get fixed as fast as possible. Without a doubt - the best! Good luck and welcome aboard!

If you don't pay then naturally your apps won't survive. You'll have a copy of course on your development machine but the server running your apps will eventually stop working. I don't speak for Alpha but this is how all software works: If I don't pay Microsoft and Adobe then I can't use Outlook or Acrobat.

That said, the community edition of Alpha Anywhere (the developer) is free. You can develop and test apps on your own computer for as long as you need. There your apps are safe and will continue to run. I've been using Alpha for nearly 14 years and it's served me well.

        Not quite Mike.
My Web dev tools are perpetual licence and I don't use a WAS, just a USA based host. Since 2014.
I support Alpha V11, 10, 9 and avoided 12 as it was moving towards Web and I invested in something different.
Alpha for DT can't be bettered.

Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.
You are held in a queue and I will get to you soon.

Those versions of Alpha are no longer available not to mention they all suffer from security vulnerabilities.

            Perhaps I wasn't clear.
All my Alpha stuff is Desktop, except some in the sandpit. Still developing DT apps for single users. May be old, but it is proven. V12 on DT gives me very little apart from costs I don't need.
My Web stuff uses latest security, a bit like this Forum does. The hosting company are top class and very security conscious.
