Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Iron Speed is gone

Iron Speed has closed the doors due to perceived patent infringements.

    I don't know much more.

That's funny. I've been on their website this last week poking around quite a bit. Watched a bunch of their videos etc. Just checked their web site a minute ago and it's still going strong. Did a quick Google search, don't see anything at first glance about shutting down?

They are being sued. Look in their forum. I understand a lot of activity there.

Papers were filed 12/08/2014 in Delaware.

        The letter:

I am writing to inform you we have decided to discontinue operations after August 31, 2015.

There are several reasons for this, one of which has been the ongoing expense of litigation with a patent troll who has challenged our intellectual property. While we feel this is baseless, patent litigation is generally a multi-million dollar exercise. This has put a drain on our resources we can no longer afford, and coupled with excessive cracked key use and license sharing, our product sales have been severely impacted.

We will continue offering Technical Support through December 31, 2015, but it is unlikely that there will be future software releases.

Because we are unable to issue any refunds, any customer with current software update or technical support subscriptions has been issued an additional perpetual license in his account. Customers with more than a year of software updates or technical support will receive additional perpetual licenses for each extra year to which they are entitled. We hope you find this fair.

The Technical Forums, Online Help, and all training videos will remain available on our corporate website through 2016.

It has been our honor developing the best RAD tool on the market over the last 12 years. We very much appreciate the support of each and every customer we’ve had the pleasure of working with. It is you, our customers, who have driven every product development idea we’ve implemented since V1. We hope you enjoyed using the tool as much as we enjoyed building it. We are deeply saddened that all of our hard work has led to this abrupt end.

Thank you again for your support, and best of luck with V12.2.
        Sincerely,
[8/31/2015 7:56:11 PM] Rob Berry: Alan Fisher

I suppose all the software made with Iron Speed now have the same (patent) problem.

Clairon was using this technique in the early 80's with their DOS program. It was a true data dictionary. Create the database and the quick start would build menus, grids, forms and reports from the database. Referential integrity was built into the data dictionary and the program. It was awesome. It's amazing what trolls can get away with.

Bankrupt the company - sell the assets to your other company - keep on going with mods to keep the trolls away.
Simple. Even take the clients with you.
                            Seen it done many times.

do isd customers care if the name is isd? I doubt it.
