Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Grids with Detail View
    Forms in Frames
    Various Login & UX's
    Navbar

+ some work in progress which should be finished in 2-3 weeks..

I've uploaded some screenshots to one of my sites: http://www.buckinghamcape.co.nz/AlphaStyle.html

    Would welcome any feedback.....

    Thx, Steve

        Steve,
I'm using Alpha Five v11. The aesthetics of your components and styles are seductive. They are much nicer to look at than the Alpha Five built-in styles. I have done someting similar, on a simpler scale, using Artisteer. It would nice to know how you made them (using a tool, hand-coding, tool + hand-coding, ...).

        Regards,

looks good, what kind of pricetag are we talking about and do you have complete styles? in other words, I dont want to buy a complete style and find the dropdown for a spinlist jumps off the page, etc.
What you have shown is very nice and should be in every Alpha release. Nice job.

Re: Sale of Alpha stylesheets & components

                Hi everyone..

                Thanks for questions & comments..

                Felix..

Strangely enough it was your post from about 3 years ago which started me on this. I've never found a way of displaying what I'm designing in an outside editor, but I use Dreamweaver to edit the actual stylesheets.

(Obviously you can do freeform layouts in Dreamweaver, as it's just a table with either Alpha or your own defined classes.)

It did take me about 100 hours to realize that the Alpha style editor is/was very buggy; especially for wiping out gradient settings and other defined css classes - the next 300-400 hours was then plain sailing/trial and much error..

Charles: "I dont want to buy a complete style and find the dropdown for a spinlist jumps off the page, etc"

Fair comment - and the answer is, it may well do that..

Although I'm fairly confident on the bulk of the stylesheet settings, the two 'complete' styles that I've done may well have some gaps - especially for list controls, dropdowns and other UX display options.

Any purchase that you make will (at minimum) include all upgrades/updates/fixes to the original styles, but if you want to jump start this, then please send me some completed components - this is far better for me as I then know that I'm styling components that developers are actually using, and can then include them in the initial package rather than as a fix..

In terms of price: I've asked some other developers privately and have received figures of $100-$200 - I'm more likely to go for the lower end of this as I want to build up user numbers so that I have a real incentive to do more/bigger/better - possibly $125 ??

Thanks again - have a good weekend everyone..

                Steve

Really great work are you going to offer the sass or are they just changes to Alpha Classes?

Re: Sale of Alpha stylesheets & components

                      Hi everyone..

Sorry for not responding earlier - things are a little hectic at present..

Michael - although the two main stylesheets do have some SASS settings, they are predominantly changes & additions to the standard Alpha classes. I haven't as yet used any class overrides, though this may be necessary for grid forms in particular

With regards the finished product - I'm currently adding some other UX components - but if you have any already developed then please email these to me at [email protected] - as above; this way I can be confident that I'm styling components that developers are actually using, and can then include them in the initial package rather than as a later fix..

As well as adding components I'm tidying up the code and adding help comments - hope to have the whole thing ready to go by the beginning of the new year..

Now up to 476 views and 6 replies - would appreciate more feedback as I can possibly reduce the price if there are large potential buyers..

                      Thanks, Steve

                        Hi Steve

These look really nice. I'd be interested for possible future projects although I agree with Charles comment - they'd need to be 'complete' styles. Not fully up to speed on CSS myself & don't currently have the time to invest so availability of pre-built options is great. Have you checked these out on mobile devices?

I'm surprised actually that there aren't more style options available from 3rd parties.

                        Cheers
                        Tiran

You know IF alpha would integrate a vehicle like pinegrow to build database driven applications - that would be spectacular. It must be impossible to integrate two programs like that because to date we have never seen it!
