Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: I have subscription but ..

Well......my subscription is up for renewal the end of this month. I too got the Charter subscription email, and many more always making offers.
Today I got one from the sales department that has me about ready to explode! The email states.....Don't let your licenses lapse! Once your subscription expires, you will no longer be able to use the software.

Correct me if I am wrong....was it not always stated that you would never be denied from using the software, you just would not be able to get anymore upgrades if you didn't renew?

I have a server that has lapsed. It worked until I applied a new patch to it - then it stopped working because the patch was from after the subscription ended. (it's a test server so it's OK.)

So your software should continue working so long as you don't run any new patches to it.

But what do you want the marketing folks to say? Subscribe now or nothing will happen?

Note: I don't work for Alpha, so maybe things have changed - I'm just telling you my experience to date.

        Richard,

You should be able to continue using the last official update released while your subscription was still in effect. This does not include pre-release builds. I recently let one of my licenses expire and I am able to use build 2999 which was the last official update released in July 2015. I get an error if I try to use any pre-release build after July 31st.

Received that today myself with the same question. I don't recall that ever being communicated. I've been looking for the license agreement on the Alpha site with no luck. I still develop the majority of my apps for desktop so until I have the need there is no reason to continue the subscription. Am I now forced to go back to V11?

I received a free evaluation version of AA following a Webinar. It's great but not great enough to warrant nearly $2000 for a basic implementation. For that I can get less fussy and convoluted software with no additional license requirements for IIS (IIS express is free), MariaDb is free, MYSql is free Joomla is free, Express4 is free, so why pay for this stuff.
As a lifelong fan of AS, I really don't believe it is competitive any more. Even Outsystems is cheaper and that was the most expensive ever!

Soon is time to decide: continue subscription or not. Continue what? Three plans to choose. First one has not mobile. Second one has. Third one has some features that others not.
So If I just take the most basic the price is just 50% more than now but I do not have mobile but I sure can do web applications but maybe I get updates and new features.

Almost 10 years with Alpha is long time and I almost did certify:)
Ok i see your at 1001 congrat as a bonus you may freely download a non-production pre-release build, but hurry the offer is only valid for 6 months.

This division standard, pro and enterprise is indeed a bad thing. If you are a developer clients will also be covered by the new pricing.
On the other hand all the new development will flow to a pro or enterprise version and for a standard version users remains a mere role of payer.

How the developer even knows what features to use and whether they are consistent with the customers version when times goes...

This is difficult to maintain and hard to be canceled. Bad thing.

I have a feeling that there are changes afoot.
It's unusual for Richard to have to step in and calm things down. As CEO, the furore will have had an effect, no doubt about it.
Still, although we know he always cared about Alpha, this time he took his eye off the ball and I doubt that it will appen again.
It must have been like someone calling your kids "ugly".
Unfortunately it takes time to change the course of business, but as I said, if I was a betting man, my money would be on a radical review of policy, strategy and tactics in sunny Boston.

Re: I have subscription but ..

Ok. I decided to stop using Alphas Phonegap Build. Obviously I will not pay extra 1000 per year for that feature. I am using two different commercial software than can replace Alphas Phonegap Build.

So I also have to give up Offline and mobile optimized forms because I really will not pay 2499 per year. And the enterprise version lets just forget it. It is out of scope totally.

Now left is just Nodejs but price is still 1500 compared to current situation when I have all the above features and the price is sorry was 1000 per year.

I also notice that there is not much left that did Alpha an interesting and competitive tool.

I wonder how stupid developer can be and how long?
