Message board categories for posting

What I would like to see with this message board is categories for posting, I think it would make finding solutions to are trouble a lot more easy, a sample
would be-

1) Tables
2) Forms
3) Browse
4) Reports
5) Letters
6) Labels
7) Operations
8) Code

Yes I mimicked A5 control panel, this would save the user "US" from trying to search somtimes for HRS and getting results that have nothing to do with what we are looking for because someone put a bad subject on their post.

Noble thought though I might suggest the addition of

xdialog
functions & methods
networking
runtime

The issue is that we are reduced to the least common denominator when it comes to classification of posts. Lenny/(Aaron?) has moved any number of posts from one version of Alpha to another, from desktop Alpha to/from the WAS, from database design to the appropriate Alpha version, etc. I'm not sure they have time to police the suggested further breakdown.

I have a personal database of Tips and information that I maintain for a reference of solutions of postings I have posted and of solutions I believe I might want that others have posted. I have a field "subject" with the exact categories you listed, Ray, and a couple Stan listed. What I find, at times, is I have a very difficult time selecting which category an item falls into. For instance:

I am populating an Xdialog with the subtraction of two crlf() lists and request help in creating the variable to populate the Xdialog. Is that code? xdialog? I placed that under code, but others might believe it falls under Xdialog.

I'm thinking it unlikely a consistent unified convention by all users is achievable. I can't even do it within myself. (yes I know ... a personal problem :o )

I have been doing exactly as you have after about 2 months of first starting to read threads on this messageboard back in March of 2006...simply invaluable especially the sample databases given. I do this even for things that I have yet to even have a use for at the time which has really helped reduce the number of novice questions I would have had to pose.
In the case of not knowing where to place the information gathered I simply add the information to both folders---maybe a bit redundant but does serve as sort of a cross referencing help file that way.

As the amount of work necessary to accomplish the daunting task of organizing the current messageboard to separate forums as mentioned would be too much to ask of Alpha, a possible solution would be for Alpha to let several members who frequent the board have the ability to do this as they read various threads. That way it would get done without taking up such a large block of time for any one person. But to find people who would be willing to do this might be a problem.
Am sure that there may be differences of opinion as to what forum to place the various threads but would be better than what it is now--other messageboards have members do this and have classifications such as moderator and super-moderator. The "super-moderator" could resolve any conflicts I guess--again though this would involve a bit of time for those who would choose to do something like this but it wouldn't be like they would have to do this on a daily basis---strictly voluntary.

What a good idea, I for one would be willing to work at doing this as I come across threads but also every current thread on this board does not need to be moved because we still have the search function but starting now would make it a whole lot better moving foreword I think. :)
