Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Is it possible to move the Mark all channels read functionality to the 1st screen that appears when you click the "New Topics"? As it stands now, you click the New Topics, pick which ones you want to read, and then return to the main forum page to Mark all channels read. Seems to me that somewhere in that workflow someone could post another thread or multiple threads that you are marking as read without ever opening them.

    When I try to make changes on my profile page and then save them I get this error message:
    • You did not enter the correct format for the Alpha License Number field. Please read the field description for the expected format.
    • A required field called Alpha License Number is missing or has an invalid value.
    But there is no such field?

    Well this is a zip file, lets see what happens next.
    Uploaded and downloaded (and now I deleted it as it was just an easy AS app example).
    So this is a straight copy and paste, no wrapping or code formatting.

    'Send an e- mail message using the Alpha Five e-mail clilent.
    if is_object(topparent.this) then
    form_name = topparent.name()+".this"
    else
    form_name = ""
    end if
    Dim message_type as c
    message_type = ""
    _to_var = a5_eval_expression("="teddy.giles%%%btinternet.com"",local_variables())
    param_to = _to_var
    subject_var = a5_eval_expression("="test"",local_variables())
    param_subject = subject_var
    param_cc = ""
    param_bcc = ""
    attachments_var = a5_eval_expression("=Var->vMydatestring",local_variables())
    param_attachments = attachments_var
    message_var = a5_eval_expression("=Var->vMydatestring",local_variables())
    param_message = message_var
    'Send the e-mail using the external e-mail client
    email_client_external(param_to,param_subject,param_message,param_attachments,param_cc,param_bcc)

    1280X800_04.jpg well I can get a picture to upload, but not a file! Upload Attachments only defaults to media on a Tablet.
    Take a photo of your code, Mike.

    Is Alpha going to fix this message board?
    The two biggest losses I experience are
    1- Can't upload a simple text file with code. I don't know about other uploads, like a small app example. The users get an error trying to open the upload.
    2- The"wrap code" # selection no longer maintains the format of the text so everything is all left justified. This is just terrible when there are levels of code.

    Alpha did no one a favor introducing this new message board IMHO.

    Hi Rich,
    If you go into your account settings, there is an option to set the number of posts per page ( http://pfm.PureFckingMagic.com/aafsettings.png ),
    but don't get too excited yet. I tried 3 times to set mine to 40.
    Unfortunately, each time, I was forced to enter a new email address, and then for some reason, the system immediately set my account
    back to system default.
