Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Hi,

can someone give me pls a hint for a tariff application, if possible at all to achieve such result in A5V8, how to get the result:

Table is very simple and fileds are:

carrier (data like EGLV, MAEU, MSCU, HLCU....)
    fmdate
    todate
fmport (data like Ham, Sha, Ngb, Nyc....)
toport (data like Rjk, Kop, Ple, Spu....)
    cnt20 (amounts....)
    cnt40 (amounts....)
    cnthc (amounts....)

How can I get a browse layout which would show:

    carrier carrier carrier
    fmport toport cnt20 cnt40 cnthc cnt20 cnt40 cnthc cnt20 cnt40 cnthc
    fmport toport cnt20 cnt40 cnthc cnt20 cnt40 cnthc cnt20 cnt40 cnthc
    fmport toport cnt20 cnt40 cnthc cnt20 cnt40 cnthc cnt20 cnt40 cnthc
    .....

The problem is that there are no fixed number of carriers and Alpha shd find how many different are existing in the table (can be e.g. between 3 to 10 different carriers) and based on that show so many different columns.
    So wd look like:

    EGLV MAEU CMDU .....
    Nyc Rjk 10 20 30 11 22 35 11 20 30
    Ham Rjk 5 10 15 55 90 95 10 15 20
    Sha Rjk 5 9 15 8 9 10 15 30 40
    .....
    Nyc Kop 13 21 32 10 25 30 15 20 35
    Ham Kop 7 12 15 16 20 25 10 15 20
    Sha Kop 5 9 15 8 9 10 15 30 40
    ....

    Tks re any hint !

    Re: Browse view

I don't think you can do this in a browse object on your form layout. Each row of the browse object is designed for a single record. You're combining fields from multiple records on single rows. No can do.

Almost sounds like a report that many have done---if just for viewing then maybe a report should be considered.....

Related to Mike's idea, does this data need to be changeable or is this just to list all the children records horizontally rather than vertically?

          Al,

changeable wd be perfect. Or at least viewable on the screen (like Pivot report in Excel) But as last, if both previous things are not posisble, how to get such result on a report (printout) wd help me, too, cos I hv to print the rate sheets (currently in Excel) regularly.

There is an example - some where on this board - where a report with a calculated field using a table.external_record_content_get() (and other code) is used to list all of the child records horizontally. - in a non maintainable layout

To make the fields changeable, you'll need to change the structure of the tables or load variables with values and write back to the appropriate records. More work, but can be done.. It's not a normal model that Alpha supports - hence Tom's comment that it can't be done - easily...... It is certainly not what a browse is designed to do...

You can do what you want using a form w. text objects (or variables, but I would use text objects because it's easier) and a lot of xbasic. And doing it that way, you can make it look really nice too.
