Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Good job mike.

    The if is a little confusing at first. It needs to be understood because it is used in just about any coding on any level anywhere. You use it in everyday life too, such as, "if you go do this, I will go do that, or the other".

    It goes like:

    Code:
    If "joe likes Jill"  then
       answer = "jane is done"
    else
       answer = "jane has a chance"
    end if

    ' now if used in a different place

    answer = if("joe likes jill" , "jane is done", "jane has a chance")
    now this can be used with dates, math, character, etc with proper setup

    Also look at:

    select case

    Re: If then questions.

    for a start, look at/try this. To see a difference just remove the now() from the dimming of departure time. And FYI, you have received spelled incorrectly.

    Code:
    delete Departure_Time
    dim received_time as t=now()
    dim Enroute_Time as t=now()
    dim Arrival_Time as t=now()
    dim Departure_Time as t=now()
    dim vstatus as C

    if convert_type(received_time,"c")<>"00/00/0000 12:00:00 00 am"
    	if convert_type(enroute_time,"c")<>"00/00/0000 12:00:00 00 am"
    		 if convert_type(arrival_time,"c")<>"00/00/0000 12:00:00 00 am"
    			if convert_type(Departure_Time,"c")<>"00/00/0000 12:00:00 00 am"
    				vs="FULL"
    			else
    				vs="empty"
    			end if
    		end if
    	end if
    end if

    msgbox(vstatus)

    Re: If then questions.

    After a lot of head pounding on the desk I figured it out. It was just a calculated field expression.

    IF(DEPARTURE_TIME > NULL_VALUE(),"Complete",IF(ARRIVAL_TIME > NULL_VALUE(),"On Scene",IF(ENROUTE_TIME > NULL_VALUE(),"EnRoute",IF(RECIEVED_TIME > NULL_VALUE(),"Pending","Error"))))

    Thank you, and I will try to be as specific as possible in the future.

    I am not understanding what the question is.....if you need another field then add it the same way you added the other 4 fields. Must be more to it than that but I need you to give more information really.....unknown even what field type the Status field will be (Logical, Character, Numeric,...).

    And what expression are you referring to...

    The more specific the information you give us the more specific we can be with answers!!

    started a topic If then questions.

    If then questions.

    Disclaimer: This is my first time building expressions. I tried to find the answer without having to come in and ask with no luck.

    I am building a dispatching database

    The fields this concerns are:

    Recieved_Time, Enroute_Time, Arrival_Time, and Departure_Time.

    What I need to do is have a 5th field called Status change based on if there is a value in each of the 4 above fields. Obviously the fields will be completed sequentially.

    Any help appreciated
