The Alpha Software Forum is a free forum created for Alpha Software Developer Community to ask for help, exchange ideas, and share solutions. Alpha Software strives to create an environment where all members of the community can feel safe to participate. In order to ensure the Alpha Software Forum is a place where all feel welcome, forum participants are expected to behave as follows:
Be sure all comments and threads you post are respectful. Posts that contain any of the following content will be considered a violation of your agreement as a member of the Alpha Software Forum Community and will be moderated:
If a thread or post is found to contain any of the content outlined above, a moderator may choose to take one of the following actions:
Moderators may also rename posts and threads if they are too generic or do not property reflect the content.
Moderators may move threads if they have been posted in the incorrect forum.
Threads/Posts questioning specific moderator decisions or actions (such as "why was a user banned?") are not allowed and will be removed.
The owners of Alpha Software Corporation (Forum Owner) reserve the right to remove, edit, move, or close any thread for any reason; or ban any forum member without notice, reason, or explanation.

Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting
Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.
When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.
The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.
When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.
A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.
If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.
When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.
Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Refresh Passive-Link Tables Failed
andrea,
The QuickBooks feature that makes our product possible is called the QuickBooks SDK - a special developer interface to the QuickBooks internal data.
This interface changes every year with them adding more support for additional data as the users request.
So yes, the data is there, but QuickBooks has to support and publish it to external applications via the QuickBooks SDK before we can use it. Different QuickBooks SDK editions offer different support for QuickBooks data to external applications like QReportBuilder.
Make sense?
thanks
brad

Re: Refresh Passive-Link Tables Failed
Thanks Brad,
What I am a little confused on then is that I have the Premiere Edition, that does assembly, but I can't access the table with QReportBuilder. How is this possible? If the table is there (which it has to be for the assemblies to work) why can't it be accessed?

Re: Refresh Passive-Link Tables Failed
andrea,
What Al is saying is that QuickBooks adds new features to each version they release, to get the largest number of tables from QuickBooks into QReportBuilder requires the latest version of QuickBooks. We support all versions of QuickBooks, but each version update has more capabilities added. thanks

Hi Al,
So what you are telling me is that the QReport Builder is not compatible with older versions of the Quickbooks software. Is this correct?
Thanks!

Andrea
I was able to refresh buildassembly and buildassemblycomponentitemline with QB Premier 2007 and the current QReportBuilder from the QB sample product based company file.
I don't have older versions of QB to test with...
Originally posted by ajdemelo View PostI just downloaded it last week, so it should be the up to date software.
QReportBuilder has to work through the QB version that you are running to get data. Intuit doesn't allow any program to directly read QB data. So we are limited to what we can do by what Intuit lets us do.

Re: Refresh Passive-Link Tables Failed
I am also having this problem. I tried at work on my QB Premiere 2006, and some of the tables linked, while others (like Build Assembly - the one I really need) do not. I also tried it at home on QB 2005 with the sample data, same problem.
I just downloaded it last week, so it should be the up to date software.
What I am looking to create is a Stock Status report that has a build column to indicate when the products will be built.
Help!

Do you know any way to dump out of QB into Excel without the spacer columns? That would make my report fit into xls.
I use QRB to get the data and then use an export operation to excel to take only the columns that I need. But I'm an alpha guy and tend to use Alpha-based solutions.

I've worked with 2008, but don't have a direct answer about any improvements in payroll reporting.

Re: Refresh Passive-Link Tables Failed
I have two companies. On one the report pulled fine because I have less classes and with a little manipulation I had that one out in less than an hour BvA by class with an extra section for proposed budget by class. Then I was able to take the classes and total by department because all data dumped into QB. I solved the Actual vs All vs Non-Zero portion by putting a bunch of .01's into my QB budgets in empty accounts and classes and that was a simple find and replace to get them out of Excel. Once I had a clean report in Excel, I added formulas on each dept worksheet that all totaled to the full spreadsheet and formatted it to make it pretty and my managers are all good with the final results. less than an hour on the one side.
On the other side, I have too many classes for the xls dump, so I needed to add all the .01's then choose the classes by department individually to dump each one into xls. Then pull a Total report out of QB and piece it all together to get it all to fit into the format I described above. That took several hours to figure out, format and get to a finished place...
I also need to add the totals by dept together in both companies to get a combined report... with two different charts of accounts, that's going to be fun... sigh...

and yes, I am biting off a lot, but it seems that simple things like totaling subclasses by class should be a bit easier to accomplish. ces't la vie!
Thank you so much! You've been incredibly helpful!

Re: Refresh Passive-Link Tables Failed
Renee
QRB can report on the data that the QB SDK allows us to. Budgets and payroll are limited in scope - at this time.
Many QB user's that I've talked to use excel to work with budgets prior to putting the data into QB because they can't work with it too much once it's there. And then they use the excel tables to feed QRB where needed.
The best way that I've gotten budget data is to use one of the reports that QB provides since QB doesn't allow a direct read of the budget table. You can call QB or post to a QB forum and ask them when they will open that up.....:D
I have run P&L's and selected a class and used that to pass out as information for the budgeting setting process.
You sure like to tackle the more complex issues immediately... ;)
But it can be done.....

Re: Refresh Passive-Link Tables Failed
I am having the same problem! Were you able to figure out why? It seems the only tables I can't get to open are the budget tables (which of course are the ones I need).
I'm trying to create a B v A P&L that totals the subclasses when I choose the main classes. This seems really something that should be included in QB, but I haven't been able to do it without pulling the entire report (which is too big horizontally to export to Excel from QB uurrggh) with all classes unless I pull each one separately. That creates a different problem in that the "Active" accounts only pulls accounts with current data in them and so my account lists are all different when I pull each total by choosing the class and subclasses... If I choose "All" instead of Active, it pulls the inactive accounts too... This is so incredibly frustrating that I've put in .01 into each budget account by class (and a -amount to balance it) to make it show on all the reports. I am trying to pull department budgets that contain all the accounts for our managers to give me a budget request for next FY and was hoping that it would be simpler than this! I was able to pull this report in one company with a TON of manipulation in Excel and QB, but there must be a simpler way...
Help!
