Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Are you going to DevCon?

Looking to meet up with some fellow Brits

Re: Are you going to DevCon?

Is it worth to go there? Have you been there? Are there opportunities to meet interesting people, exchange opinions and ask questions? Or maybe you know other dev events which you can recommend.

Re: Are you going to DevCon?

I've been to the last 2 DevCon's for the conference and the training and to be honest they are brilliant and well worth the hike across to the USA. I've met some good people, enjoyed the stay as Alpha Software always seem to look after you well at these events and you can learn a great deal. The big issue I found was trying to choose between the track 1 and 2 when both interest me and both are held at the same time!

I'm hoping to go this year however the costs associated with paying for the conference, the hotel, cash whilst attending and flights as well as my subscriptions landing around the same time is putting a strain on me.

      Hope this helps.

Re: Are you going to DevCon?

Would love to go but unfortunately as has been the same for the past few years it clashes with a longstanding commitment I have here with the NFL! Somewhat ironic!

Re: Are you going to DevCon?

I'm a Brit living in Canada and I have been to the last 3 and thoroughly enjoyed them but it is getting a little too expensive. As Wayne indicated, the combined cost of DEVCON, license renewals, flights, accommodation, etc., all at this time of the year can be devastating to the wallet. I will be there this year but it will probably be my last for a while.

Re: Are you going to DevCon?

Although I am not a Brit, I am married to one - and am Canadian, so that should give me honourary Brit status?

I attended in 2015 and last year. Not attending this year - various reasons, scheduling conflict, cost and a lessening desire to support the US Economy as they seem to not want to co-operate with their economic partners now. (That's as political as I will get.)

Here's an idea, hold it in the UK next year! I will book my flights now!

Re: Are you going to DevCon?

              Hi David,

There isn't really a good substitute but IADN has weekly webinars which I find useful as they are from a developer's perspective. Alpha's Wednesday webinars are also a good way to see upcoming improvements, techniques, etc.

Re: Are you going to DevCon?

IADN has always been a free resource. But we are moving to require a relatively small membership fee for access to our webinars and to obtain special pricing on training, products, etc. It is expensive to run weekly webinars in terms of time and basic costs. Anyway, at the moment and IADN account is still free, you can register and just build a profile, not pay for membership.

Re: Are you going to DevCon?

Its been free because it always provided good business leads for projects. But that seems to have subsided quite a bit in the last few years.
