Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Browse jumping problem (again)

    Hi,
    Using A5v9, build 2349-3475.
    The browse on the form (only form) in the attached application jumps when a second record is selected for print.
    Instructions to view problem:
    open attached zip file in new folder
    open form
    click "Un-check all" box on form
    click on 2ndrecord in Print column
    click on 5th record in that column
    click on 7th record

    By this time, the pointer should have moved to the bottom record. I believe that the record pointer should not move at all.
    Are you experiencing the same problem?
    How can this be resolved.
    Thanks.

    Re: Browse jumping problem (again)

    Jay, on my XP Pro sp3 system I'm NOT seeing any "jumping" when following your sequence.

    -- tom

    ps - in your "Print selected scripts" button you probably need to:
    a) terminate the script if unsaved edits are pending, to give the user the option of saving or canceling the edits.... so that no query is run until form is in view mode; and

    b) you probably need to resynch the display after the query is run.

      Tom,
      Hi. Thanks for looking.
      I put the sample on an XP computer in my office, and did not see the jumping there, either.

      I am, however, seeing it in both the full app, as well as the sample that I posted on the board. My O/S is Vista. Perhaps that is the difference?????

      Thanks also for your two suggestions. I heartily agree with #1.

      I have
      browse1.resynch()
      browse1.fetch_first()
      at the end of both buttons. Do you think this is sufficient to resynch the display?

        Re: Browse jumping problem (again)

        Jay,

        Your build is much much different from mine. I'm using build 2095_3264 of vers 9 of alpha Five. I thought that was the last release, are you using vers 9 or 10? I ask because you've posted to the vers 9 forum...

        ...

        and...

        since your form is based on a single table, I'd be inclined to resynch the form itself by using

        parentform.resynch()

        -- tom

          I am using version 9.
          Thanks for the parentform.resynch()

            Jay,
            I would like to ask Tom's question again. Where and when did you get build 2349-3475??????

              Ernie,
              In case you are thinking that you somehow missed out on a new update, you haven't! I have also had a "later" build (2237/3268) which was an unreleased fix for something, but did not help out my issues at all so went back to the latest released build Tom stated.

              My thoughts though are that in order for us to help we should be on the same builds (which means Jay should go back to the one most everyone else has!) in case it is the issue.

                  Mike,
                  Thanks for your thoughts. I cannot remember why I have that build, but I agree that going back to the earlier one would probably be helpful.
