Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Any Suggestions? -- Query/Find by form

I have 3 tables. Parent is "Orders" related to "Invoices" one to many, and "Comm" related to "Invoices" on to many.

I created a 3 tabbed form. On the first form I have order data. On the 2nd form I enter Inv. data and in the third from comm. data.

In the 3rd form I placed a button when designed as "Query by form" OR "Find by form" will not find an Invoice number that I can see in the invoice table. I always says "no records were found". When designed as "Find by text" it does get the invoice number to show in the invoice number field I placed in the form.

Any ideas why Query or Find by form button will not work?

RE: Any Suggestions? -- Query/Find by form

    Hi Gene,

This slightly beside the point of your question but when you put the child and grandchild tables on tabs, you do not mention whether each tab contains an embedded browse at the child (tab2)and grandchild (tab3) level. Given the structure of your set, you should reconsider the whole approach you have taken to this form. But that's another story.

The reason you were unable to query on invoice number is that you cannot query on a child record of a set. But don't get mad because you can probably do what you need to do if you rethink your methodology.

For simplicity, let's consider only orders and invoices where each order can have many invoices.
    -you could create an inverted set of invoices linked one-to-one to orders. You could query this set on invoice number without difficulty;
-there is something called flattenquery that you could read up on in the documentation and in an article at learn alpha.com; and,
-I have an article--also at learn alpha.com--which shows how to place some features of child records in the parent so they can be searched on.

So you have options, but also rethink the form.

William -- I believe I know what you mean.

Yes tab2 and tab3 each have an imbeded browse. Now that you mention it I did read somewhere that you cannot query on a child record of a set.

I will look into the articles and thanks again for pointing me in the right direction
