Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

web app or phonegap app? Survey

Are you developing mobile web apps or actual mobile phonegap apps that appear in the apple/windows/droid stores?

If I had to guess from the message board alone that most developers are building web apps, and not phonegap apps.

The documentation and video available on building a phonegap app is sparse, maybe because it is necessary to move outside of
Alpha to put all the pieces together?

Noticed Alpha has transform in the IOS app store, however can't find a Alpha generated demo there? Is there one? That would be helpful.

Considering taking that next step but it is still Greek to me. Who are the Alpha experts building phonegap apps?

If you have an app in one or more of the app stores, can you provide a link?

    Thanks!
    Bob

Yes. Be it desktop computer or iPad my users just open their browser and use the app.

My business apps I maintain are very data entry heavy so this route makes sense for us.

              100% phone gap for mobile.
All are industrial data capture apps that work in offline environments.
They are all also managed by an MDM for pushing out updates to devices.

                  Always PhoneGap for me.
All my apps need to work while users are offline and I need to store lots of data on the device.
Without PhoneGap and some of the plug-ins, I just find it too hard to get around the storage limits of a regular web app.

PWA will replace sooner or later both in mobile devices.

Re: web app or phonegap app? Survey

All of my applications are proprietary for my customers, so, as of now, I haven't posted any of my apps on the Play Store or Apple Store. However, I use PhoneGap for all of my mobile apps (I use the PhoneGap QR Code for installation to the device and "Instant Update"). My customers love that they look like real apps (vs browser apps), and, so far, it had worked well for me. Still, most of my apps are Desktop Web Apps that run in regular browsers. My best applications have both Web (Desktop) and Mobile (PhoneGap) components. Hope that helps!

Re: web app or phonegap app? Survey

Most apps have been enterprise apps for field workers (using Ipads or Android tablet) with disconnected capability - so phonegap is essential. Two new apps will be released to the puplic though through the app stores, and those will also use PhoneGap. We have a couple new project just starting that will also use PhoneGap.

I've been struggling with AlphaLaunch for several days now and have yet to get anything working. I can get my files published but not whatever 'launcher' opens my app as a mobile app. I can work through it with you if you want.

                              2 browser 4 phone gap
Learned lots. Still digesting it all. Looks like there is alot of diversity in phonegap vs browser.
Live near Philly in the northeast corrider having a connection is really not a problem.
Is it right to say that disconnected capabilities has other advantages?
Speed for instance? You don t have to go to the server when you first open the app besides login.
