Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    a5ws_getcurrentuser()

    Hello all
    Is it possible to perform a session.contomerID lookup on a grid's data since at this point the user is already login? I want to use the user's info throughout my web app.
    BTW the below is from my index page source code.

    dim CurrentUserName as c

    CurrentUserName = a5ws_getcurrentuser()
    if CurrentUserName <> ""
    dim args as sql::Arguments
    args.set ("UserName",CurrentUserName)
    session.CustomerID = sql_lookup("::name::connection1","names","UserName =:Username","Customer_ID",args)
    if session.CustomerID > 0
    args.set ("Customer_ID",session.CustomerID)
    session.Customername = sql_lookup("::name::connection1","names","UserName =:Username","Customer_ID",args)

    end if
    end if

    Re: a5ws_getcurrentuser()

    Let me correct the above. I want to pull the user's login name and display it on top of a grid or A5W page.
    A video link or link to someone who has done this would be great.

    Thanks
    John

      You have already set the session variable, so on top of your a5w page or in a grid freeform area try this:

      <%a5
      ? session.Customername + " is logged in."
      %>

        Re: a5ws_getcurrentuser()

        Thanks Pete
        I changed the index page to read the following

        if x_out.RedirectURL <> "" then
        dim CurrentUserName as c

        CurrentUserName = a5ws_getcurrentuser()
        if CurrentUserName <> ""

        end if
        response.redirect(x_out.redirectURL)
        end
        end if

        Then did a test page with what you shown. My result was

        is logged in.
        I would like to show the user's name :)

          Maybe you're not showing me all your code?

          session.CurrentUserName = a5ws_getcurrentuser()

          In your other example you said session.Customername

              Re: a5ws_getcurrentuser()

              You don't want to put the CurrentUserName = a5ws_getcurrentuser() on the login page. Put it on your redirect page which should be set in security settings.

                    Re: a5ws_getcurrentuser()

                    Pete and others I back at it this morning.
                    After login I redirect to a TabbedUI.
                    I'm adding the Following into Xbasic of the TabbedUI, however it is not saving it.
                    Is the problem because I redirect to the TabbedUI?

                      Re: a5ws_getcurrentuser()

                      Use an intermediate page. Every time you save a change to the tabbed_ui it overwrites the a5w page. Also, you need to make it a session variable if you want other pages to see it.

                          Let's start over. You need 3 pages:

                          page 1 = login page w. login component.

                          page 2 = some intermediary page w. code:

                          Code:
                          <%a5
                          session.CurrentUserName = a5ws_getcurrentuser()
                          response.redirect("YourTestPage.a5w")
                          %>
                          Page 3 = YourTestPage.a5w w. code:

                          Code:
                          <%a5
                          ? session.CurrentUserName + " is logged in."
                          %>
                          In order for this to work, your security settings must have "Redirect page after login" set to: Your page 2 name
