Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    E-Mail Outbox

Alright doggone it, I'm usually pretty good about finding things I need, but this one eludes me.

I just set up an E-mail Outbox in Project Properties. Republished the files, etc. so the server would know about it, but emails aren't being saved in the table. And I used the built-in "Create E-Mail Outbox Table feature to do the job -- don't see anything wrong.

So to figure out what I might have done wrong or missed, I'm looking for a video or any other instruction on this, and I'm almost certain I saw a video from Selwyn on it when it first came out, but darned if I can find it. Maybe I'm just remembering the one I did for one of the tutorials - I don't know.

    So:

    1) is anyone else using this feature with success, and

    2) does anyone know of a link to documentation or video on this.

    Re: E-Mail Outbox

I use a supportform that saves the request in the Email-outbox perfectly and also atsame time sends the email to the receiver from a Dialog2 component. I send the images later today. < out of the office and on the road>
TYI: I have done nothing special so check your settings.

That *may* be the difference Eric, that the emails from my system are completely scripted for automated sending, and not done through the UI ?

        Re: E-Mail Outbox

No other answers? I'm using a UDF and email_send2() for a big email-sending facility. I've done --- I think -- the standard setup of the E-Mail Outbox.

Question remains: Should emails sent with email_send2() in a UDF be automatically stored in the Outbox?

I can roll my own storage of course -- it's probably about a dozen lines of code and simple. But, I'm wondering whether or why I need to do this or have I missed something in setting up the E-Mail Outbox?

          Re: E-Mail Outbox

I set-up Application Server email with right click on server running in System Tray and selecting email. Here you specify a profile that points to a mailbox. The mailbox table must be a dbf. I have been unsuccessful in using an active-link table to a SQL mailbox.
The when using email_send2() there is a flag to store sent mail in outbox.

I don't have/use a dbf for emails everyting is directly stored on the back db. Best is not to use and save emails at the dbf you will run out of storage due to 2GB limit for dbf files. A second WAS instance is running that checks or mails need to be send to patients or clinics etc. There serveral options even without A5 scripts but most developers use send** or the Net functions to handle this taks.

Eric, will you share some code on how to use .Net to receive email with Alpha? Sending seems quite straightforward but receiving seems way more complicated.
