Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

TIME Field - Date picker still giving DATE and TIME

    Hi,

I have a dialog with a time field. Field is textbox, type = time.

Database is MYSQL and field is define as TIME field.

    Display format = time("0h:0m:am"

I have Date/Time picker checked. Date Format set to 0h:0m:AM

After user selects a TIME (date does not display in the dropdown), and hits submit,
an SQL error is generated stating that data is in wrong format. It is placing the DATE in front, and it should ONLY be saving the TIME. So, upon saving, the INSERT has 04/28/2012 15:30:00 and should only be 15:30:00.

Any ideas??? I only want TIME recorded into that field, not the date.

Chris, I know nothing about MySQL but googled its TIME data type. The description I found suggests to me that its akin to the Alpha "ShortTime" data type, not Alpha's "Time" datatype. Can you safely test things if you change the field's data type to Short Time?

Re: TIME Field - Date picker still giving DATE and TIME

Thanks Tom. Yes, that is what I need actually. However, when I tell A5 to use the Time Picker, I want the user to see: 08:15 AM. I have the part correct. However, when it tries to save to the database, it tries to save it still as 08:15 AM, while mysql wants its in 24-hour format 08:15:00 (no am/pm).

I Cannot figure how to get it to properly format for the database, while makign it easy to view for a non-24 hour person.

Re: TIME Field - Date picker still giving DATE and TIME

Let's say they pick "02:30 PM"

This can be expressed as seconds past midnight like this:

            Code:
            ?toseconds("02:30 PM")
            = 52200

Knowing the number of seconds past midnight you can convert it back to a short time
            formatted HH:MM:SS like this:

            Code:
            ?totime(52200,2,0)
            = "14:30:00"

And putting them both together you wind up with this:

            Code:
            ?totime(toseconds("02:30 PM"),2,0)
            = "14:30:00"
            Will this work for you?

Re: TIME Field - Date picker still giving DATE and TIME

Ugh, Tom, thank you for the reply.. I replied yesterday via my cell phone but apparently it didn't go thru.

That would be perfectly fine, but I'm not sure how that would store it in mysql as hh:mm:ss but display hh:mm am/pm

I don't know what settings to set.

              Thanks,
              chris

                Chris,

You are changing the question (again), or we're not communicating. I'll stand aside and let others chime in.

When you get around to testing what I've suggested thus far let us know what you get.

Tom, I apologize for frustrating you, and the not being able to communicate part... As my last reply said, that would work perfect, but I don't know how to implement what you told me... I'm really new to A5, and as much as I've learned in 3 weeks, there is a lot of areas I'm not sure what goes where.

Where does the ?totime(toseconds("02:30 PM",2,0) go in the time field to tell A5 to save it to MySQL as such?

Again, I'm sorry for any miscommunication.

                  Chris
