Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Install different Application Server version on the same Window Server

I currently have a Alpha V9 Application Server installed on a Windows server with a Alpha V9 web application. We recently developed a new web application using Alpha V10.5.

Can I install the Alpha V10.5 Application Server on the same Window Server that has the V9 Application Server installed?

If it can, is there documentation on how to install it?

    Thanks - Roy

Re: Install different Application Server version on the same Window Server

If I were doing this, I'd install on a separate computer/server first to confirm, but we've got multiple WAS versions 10.5 and 11 installed on the same server without any issues.

v10.5 defaults to install into (c:\Program Files\A5v10 Application Server).

If you're installing on a 64bit server, it should install to c:\Program Files (x86)\A5v10 Application Server. I have noticed that the patches sometimes ignore the (x86), and install into c:\Program Files\a5v10 Application Server\ - so if you're installing patches, just make sure the directory name is correct.

The only item to remember is that you will need to make sure you run the 10.5 site on a different port (WAS configure main tab), and then use that port when accessing the site (ie: mydomain.com:8080)

      Thanks Earl for your response.
I have additional question which I hope you can assist me with:

Will there be a confict if my WAS V9 also uses port 80?
How does the web application know which WAS to use (V9 or V10.5)?
Also, when publishing the web application, does the profile determine what WAS to publish to?

Re: Install different Application Server version on the same Window Server

You can't have both Application Servers running on the same port - so your existing v9 is set to 80, and your v10.5 will have to be set to another port (I suggested 8080)

Since you'll be using 2 different ports, each WAS will know where to look for the application.

Each WAS will look in a specific directory for your application - so I'd suggest you setup the v10.5 WAS to look in a different directory as your webroot. Not sure what v9 used, but maybe setup a C:\a5v10\ directory, and publish your v10.5 app there? Then, in the WAS configuration, you can point to that different directory, and in the publishing profile, you can publish to that specific directory.

        Thanks,

Re: Install different Application Server version on the same Window Server

So, if I understood you guys, I can install, on the same server, using different ports, two versions of the Application Server: one for production (last stable release) and another with the last release candidate for test new features.

Is this safe? Have you tried it before?

          Thanks,
