Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Maybe Alpha needs a find and replace, not just a find, (unless it exists, and I don't know about it,) with the option to either just replace everything, or prompt for each change.

Carol, your explanation is simple enough, but even simpler, you don't have to Select All or click the Find icon. You can just click anywhere in the Xbasic, right-click and choose Replace (or use Ctrl+H).

William, I posted something in the wishlist a long time ago on that. I agree it would be an amazing feature, especially for times such as this.

FYI - this is in the Pre-release release notes:

Please do NOT post bug reports concerning the pre-release build on the message board. Alpha Software engineers do NOT routinely monitor the message board and there is a good chance that your posting will be overlooked. Also, since your posting will be referencing unreleased code, it will only serve to confuse other users.

        Perhaps a pre-release forum?

Bill, I like that idea about a pre release forum. I know they posted that about reporting bugs on here but it is so helpful to me when someone else tries a pre release and then lets us know about bugs. Helps all of us decide whether to get it or not. Thanks, Jaime, I did get that pre-release this morn. Haven't had time to test it yet. We'll see what else I can come up with. :) There is one thing that I know is not fixed in this one yet... which is that now everything disappears from my Home tab in a tabbed ui after opening a grid in a tab pane and closing it. Doesn't happen if I open a page in a tab pane and close it, and is probably peculiar to IE 8. They are looking into that now.

Believe it or not, I asked Alpha about a pre-release forum just before this discussion started. The opinion is that this would confuse users and there would be posts in both place, V11 and pre-release. Also, there actually used to be a pre-release forum and it was hardly used. There also used to be a "newbie" forum and that ended up causing lots of confusion and I participated in moving posts to various forums once that newbie forum was closed.

It really would seem to make sense to have a pre-lease forum. If Alpha does not want discussion in the general forums about pre-release problems or questions, I would think they would get inundated with more bug reports. Being able to discuss or confirm behavior about a pre-release feature or fix would seem too be more helpful than harmful. Also many times Alpha emplyess are referring to pre-release builds as well. Steve would it be possible for you to check with Alpha again about this position?

                Thanks

I would propose a private sub-forum of the v11, i think this is easily doable with vBulletin. The idea is that each one of us, interested in reporting bugs and helping Alpha to keep on delivering to us great versions of this wonderful product, would specifically request admission to that sub-forum. This way, those bug reports won't figure in google search etc...
