Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Heads Up- prerelease3921-trouble with edit combo lookups with dynamic filter & more

Since I installed the new pre release this morning (2669-3921 ), my edit combo lookup fields that have dynamic filters are not working. I have submitted a bug report. ALSO, child grid components with filters that return no records open fine on first try (show No Records message), but subsequent openings of the child grid returns an error message:
    Error running Grid:
Error computing summary values. Error reported was: Script:TEMPLATE line:1 Variable already typed

I have been waiting and waiting to install a pre release in order to get one fix, but have never been able to get one that does not break several other things... ah well, I will probably roll back to the March one I've been using pretty successfully.

2669-3921 - Carol same here - it's unbelievable this build (I call the death-star) is still being offered - it's an app killer, in the wrong sense of the meaning... I hope people see this warning.

The 'variable already typed' seems to have gone again with this build.

              Pete,

Go to the usual pre-release download page and ignore the version number at the top. Just click the downloads you need and you will get the latest update, they don't always update the text, but there is usually a pre-release update most days.

So is it any good? Any issues with session variables do you know?

Thanks Lance - I'll put it on a safe machine... see how it goes.

There is still something wrong somewhere, I do not get the variable already typed error anymore but sometimes I get nothing at all just a pop up window where my dialog data should be! Have to close down my web page and reload it to get my data back.

Just a reminder. The last 4 digits in the full build number (such as 3921) are the addins build number, not the program build number. While every new build has a new program build number, multiple program builds may have the same addin number. When reporting an issues, please use the full program build numbers such as 2673-3922, or just the program number - 2672

Sorry my view - it's no good, dialog is ignoring session variables, also in show hide the dialog conditions fail - also some confusion over how and hidden has crept in - needs fixing. I'm stuck back April 9 - need to make available the build prior this. - no time for bug reports mate - way to much to do - losing time on this big time.

Regarding expectations with pre-release builds ...
I "know" that these builds should not be implemented in production environments.
Having said that, are these builds strictly for beta testing on Alpha's behalf? Is that how we should approach these?

I would expect that Alpha has a relatively large and complex test application that they can run new builds against to see if previously working features are getting broken.

Re: Heads Up- prerelease3921-trouble with edit combo lookups with dynamic filter & mo

While I appreciate that Alpha is doing everything to give us some wonderful features, and I am dedicated to sticking with it.... there are days that they just completely wear me out with the race to grab a version that doesn't break a bunch of my stuff. I have put in hours, which turn into weeks, on various bugs, and am way behind where I thought I'd be. BUT as a developer I kind of get it. It is evident to me that Alpha is doing everything they can to give us some awesome tools AND that they do react to fix bugs very expediently.... so... I just tell myself this is all some kind of partnership to get to the best place in the end... and I keep on trucking. One thing I keep saying to my friends, though, is that they need to work on expressing their appreciation to customers for assisting them in this constant beta testing environment.

Recently I find myself thinking..... 'Just STOP, Alpha, save any new stuff for V12, and get what you already have in V11 ironed out. V11 already has everything I, and probably many, need.'

Jerry, I'll try to put something together that might demonstrate the erratic behavior of session variables on my dialog now, which were working fine before.
