Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Chad thank you for the screencast! It was just what I needed to remind me of how simple Alpha can make things!
Once I saw it I had my duh moment and quickly wrote the sql filter for the report I was trying to date-range.

Thank you for taking the time!

      Hi Lee,

I have no problem executing the date range on the execution of the report. But is there a way to include that data range into the title or footer of the report?
I'm not sure if you demonstrated in the above video.

If you did, I would love to see the soution to integrate the argument to execute the report into a Text Label of the report. Thanks!

That's brilliant! I kept trying to use the function A5_GetArgumentValue(); it gave me nothing. Your method was so simple; never thought about using argument as part of the data.
I'm building a pivot table so I had to stay with SQL native. No Genie luxury for me. Thank you so much!!

SELECT :DateFrom As FromDate, :DateTo As ToDate, [IC_Div] AS Division, [Proj_Name] AS [Project Name], [Desc_] As Description, [DKT] AS DKT, [Legal] AS Legal, [Steve Ball] AS [Steve Ball], [Baab] AS Baab, [Deposits] AS Deposits
          FROM
(SELECT :DateFrom As FromDate, :DateTo As ToDate, [Inv_Date] As Inv_Date,[IC_Div] AS IC_Div, [Vendor] AS Vendor, [Desc_] As Desc_, [Proj_Name] As Proj_Name, [Inv_Amt] As Inv_Amt
          FROM webmod2.CELLSITESALL_PROGEXPENSE) p
          PIVOT
          (
          Sum(Inv_Amt)
          FOR Vendor IN
([DKT], [Legal], [Steve Ball], [Baab], [Deposits])
          ) AS pvt
          WHERE Inv_Date between CONVERT(DATETIME, :DateFrom, 102) and CONVERT(DATETIME, :DateTo, 102);

Here is the argument tidbit from the video.

            trans_date >= :argSD and trans_date <= :argED and (:argstoreid="All" or store_name=:argstoreid)

Thanks for this information. I have a tabbed component executing a report just like the video shown with Date Range and one more field Division=:argDiv.
If :argDiv is set to "All" with the intention of requesting all the Divisions into this report. The filter base the example above would be (:argDiv="All" or Division=:argDiv) right?

The executed filter would be "All" = "All" or Division='All'? Which makes sense that will fail. But how did demonstrated video worked?
Any guidance from the forum would be greatly appreciated!

Report did not print. Error reported was:

            Layout name: rpt_ProgramExpense@L:\A5Work\A5Data\...llsitesall.alb
            Layout type: report
Invalid report filter expression: '("All" = "All" or division = "All")'.

Re: Date Range Report (Video to Share)

In the list of choices you can do this way: http://www.screencast.com/t/SJ8DlCOt5zmK
              All|%
              RN|RN
              CNA|CNA
              DR|DR

And then in the filter change it so that is like instead of =

Re: Date Range Report (Video to Share)

Hmmm that makes sense. It works in MS SQL, but it's not working in AlphaV11.

Report did not print. Error reported was:
                Layout name: rpt_ProgramExpense@L:\A5Work\A5Data\...llsitesall.alb
                Layout type: report
Invalid report filter expression: 'division like "Office"'.

My filter is local. I don't think that should matter. The interface for local and SQL filter are the same.... but it's interesting that [LIKE] is not part of the Build interface?

Thanks for sharing! I noticed you are using SQL Genie where I'm using Native SQL because of my Pivot Table.
Maybe it's a question to Alpha Support because the "=" works just fine while "like" just fails. Thanks for sharing your knowledge here. I'm sure others will benefit from your videos also.

Maybe it's the local filter vs at the report level. Have you tried it at the report level?

Re: Date Range Report (Video to Share)

I posted the problem to [email protected] and Selwyn responed that local filter is executing on temp .DBF file. The use of Xbasic fuction of smatch() is the solution.
                        Yes it worked!

                        My local filter is:
                        smatch("Division", :argDiv) .or. Division=:argDiv

I'm glad you got it to work. I've never used that function. Does that work if you select "All"?
