Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Latest Alpha Five Sales Model Opinions

Most of this will be moot for subscriptions that were/are sold on the basis of covering at least till the next major release, if Alpha continues their previous practice of including premium feature from earlier versions as standard features of new major versions releases.
Alpha has never said anything about feature packs being limited to the subscription period in which they were released and the terms have been straight forward and easy to understand. However, will there be a major release such as version 12? Only Alpha knows for sure but with a subscription plan, will a major release be necessary? If so, will it include all the feature packs which were released prior to the release of the next version? Say, for example, someone who has not been on a subscription plan, purchases a subscription, will that person get all previous feature packs?

I purchased a subscription when it was first offered and the offers I get for an extended subscription are not enticing enough for me to take the plunge. Why? As I evaluate my needs, neither extension plan is worth it since I have no clue what Alpha's goals are. To say an extended subscription plan includes any and all feature packs, etc., is too vague, at least for me. The promos for the first subscription included v11 and several named feature packs which were in the works. That gave me something I could sink my teeth into. This time around, there's been no talk of v11.5 or v12 and what they might include. There's been no specifics about what feature packs are in the offing.

I will not spend $1K or more for the unknown, especially when I have no clue if it will be of use to me. Sure the feature packs have value but if it's something I can't use, it's really of no value to me until if and when I can use it.

Additionally, other than a few bits and pieces, the mobile part of v11 has not been released as well. I'm not faulting Alpha. Quite the contrary. I applaud them for taking the time to make it work properly. It does, however, raise the question, if it's not released by the time the 1st subscription runs out and I don't re-up my subscription, will I still get the mobile version as stated in the v11 sales pitch?

You have a very good point. I could have emailed Richard directly and he no doubt would have responded. However, those questions are for everyone to know the answers and that's why I asked them here. They are also probably questions that Alpha hasn't faced before. If so, Richard cannot and should not answer them until policy is established. Alpha has been breaking new ground for over 20 years and this is no exception. I have other thoughts and questions but for now, I'll keep them tucked away.
