Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

"Printer error: print hdcPrn is Null" while printing, any ideas?

About 50% of the time I get this message when trying to print in Alpha Five (will print fine from other programs)

"Printer error: print hdcPrn is Null" or sometimes no message and nothing prints.

Stand alone laptop connected to a Dell laser printer with a USB cable, have tried two different printers and does the same with both.

Happens just at random, can restart and it may print or it may not.

Very annoying and embarrassing, but I'm sure it is something simple. Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Tony

Tony, Are you specifying the printer in the design of the layout?

Also look to see if the OneNote printer is installed - that can give you fits if you are printing an Alpha report to a PDF file.

If so, search the board for removing OneNote - I arbitraily remove it on all client machines.

I only print reports with this app and that is when I get the error messages or nothing prints.

          Keith
I have all my reports set up to print to the default printer

          Martin
I do have OneNote installed, I don't know when that happened.
However, problem occurs when printing reports, have not tried printing pdf of reports.
I will search for removing OneNote and see what happenings

Thanks for the replies, I be back with the results of removal of OneNote

I'm sure you have checked to be sure the default printer is the one you expect it to be.

Re: "Printer error: print hdcPrn is Null" while printing, any ideas?

Just noticed that I have two Alpha Five printer drivers installed on my laptop

              AlphaFivePrinter V4

              and

              AlphaFivePrinter V4p5

Are these the correct drivers I should have installed?

              Win 7 Pro, 64-bit
              Win 7 XP mode
              Alpha Five V11 build 2549

              Thanks

I have the same on my Win 7 Pro 64-bit box.

I don't run vers 11 in XP mode. Are you doing that?

                  Yes, running in XP mode.
I had the printing problem with 10.5 as well

I wonder if you ran under Win 7, instead of in XP Mode, would that still have the problem you describe?

I was wrong, I am running Win7 Pro on this machine.

What is the correct Alpha Five printer driver I should have installed?

                          AlphaFivePrinter V4

                          or

                          AlphaFivePrinter V4p5

                          or both?

                          Thanks

I have both here and am running without problem on a machine that's similar to yours.

I do NOT have OneNote running or installed.

You probably want both - one is for 10.0 and earlier, and one is for 10.5 and later (as I recall)

they will NOT conflict iwth each other - HOWEVER - you NEVER print to them, they are for converting to PDF, etc.

Also, there is no reason to run either 10.5 or 11 in xpmode, that I am aware of - All my clients are running "not in xp mode" with no known issues.
