Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to manually perform an Ajax callback to a xBasic function

    Hi
    In the onClick of a button, i would like to prompt for confirmation prior to running an Ajax callback to a xBasic function.
    So, i thought of using the A5.msgBox.show function to prompt for the confirmation, then if button "Yes" is pressed, i would like to call the xBasic function. How do i perform that callback?

    Thanks
    Jaime

    Hey,

    Start by adding an Action Javascript callback (A5 will define the JS code for you).

    Then go to its source code and add in this js:

    if (confirm('Are you sure?')) {
    // place the ajax callback code here
    }

    Cheers,
    Andy

      Was just doing one of those...

      Code:
      var answer = confirm('Is it OK to remove the attachment from this vendor?');
      if(answer == true) {
      	{grid.Object}.ajaxCallback('G',{Grid.RowNumber},'ClearAttachment','','_getData=true');
      } else {
      	alert('The attachment will NOT be removed per your request.');
      }

          Works as advised. Now i have a new problem related to this: this grid is not editable, so my e._currentRowDataNew is empty. How can i still have access to the fields in the grid from my function?

            I quite often use this method on a non-editable grid and am able to use e._currentRowDataNew so I'm not sure what is happening on yours.
            I begin my function with: function functionName as c (e as p)
            Is that what you're doing?

              Of course. I know that the _getData=true part is there so the current row data goes through, but for some reason, when i stop the execution, i can see e._currentRowDataNew is empty :-(

                that will take someone with a higher level of savvy than me to explain, Jaime

                  Jaime,

                  Be sure that you choose a primary key in the AlphaDAO query. This is required to submit data to the callback if the grid is read-only.

                    Re: How to manually perform an Ajax callback to a xBasic function

                    Frank is very correct - no primary key set can mean that no values are passed. Unless of course you make the grid editable and make your primary keys into hidden textboxes. Then these get passed anyway.
                    BTW it has always frustrated me that A5 cannot determine primary keys from MS Access views (internally-defined queries). Any time you edit the query, you lose the PK settings and must manually reset them!!! Bug or SQL limitation?

                      I think that's it, this grid is based on a view...Will investigate this, but i really hope i don't have to make it editable...

                        You don't have to make it editable. Just include and choose a primary key. It can be any field, however you want it to uniquely identify the data.

                          Thanks for this simple javascript way to ask for confirmation, was looking at more complicated options, so this was brilliant.

                          Proves the msgboard works even on messages from years ago!
