Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Hourly sales report

How do I summarize a report on sales in an hourly basis? daily and Monthly? Thanks!

    Re: Hourly sales report

Depends largely on what data you are tracking in the sales table.

In general you can summarize transaction data in a report by grouping the transaction data, and then putting calc fields in the group footers that total values across all records in the current group.

An alternative approach is to define a batch summarize operation that populates a separate table, and then base your report on the separate table.

Give them a go and let us know if you have questions.

Is it possible Tom if the Report be based on hourly basis because the data entered is mixed date and time? I can see that it would be possible by setting dates grouping so that summary could be daily.

Suggest u figure out how to parse the data into separate date and hour values. This is your starting point.

Thanks Tom, I'll try to search how to parse data into separate date and hour values, I appreciate it much you can post how.

Jet, if you post a sample table here someone will take a crack at parsing the values for you.

                Jet,

Ok, here's your example. Run the script "ParseDatesAndTimes" on the code page, then examine the trace window.

This example illustrates how one can extract both date values and hour values from a "TIME" datatype.

BTW, I've changed your sample data to help illustrate things. Your original data had duplicate TIME values in each record.

Thank you Tom, your sample to parse date and time is great, I am now trying to figure out how to display the total of every hour of every day. I hope it would be included in in later versions of alpha in the summary operation, wherein a per hour summary will be included.

I'm trying to produce a report something like this.
                  Date Time Total Amont Sold
                  05/10/2012 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM 5,000.00
                  05/10/2012 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM 0
                  05/10/2012 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM 0
                  05/10/2012 10:01 AM - 11:00 AM 400
                  etc. for AM

                  05/10/2012 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM 1,000.00
                  05/10/2012 2:01 PM - 3:00 PM 6,000.00
                  05/10/2012 3:01 PM - 4:00 PM 0
                  05/10/2012 4:01 PM - 5:00 PM 0
                  05/10/2012 5:01 PM - 6:00 PM 200.00
                  etc for PM
