Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      Hmmm... Could it be that the window you are opening the report in and/or the window you are opening the grid in are the current "targets" of your javascript button click attempt instead of your dialog? In that case, if you used some timeouts maybe you could track it down. Or you could put the button clicking in the after close of the windows or something. Seems to me somthing like that is going on here possibly.

        I'm not sure. Since the method I am using is working I will just tinker around and try to figure it out.

            Re: click a button from javascript

            Still not working Here is what I have tried.

            jinx idea
            Code:
            $('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.BUTTON_2').click();
            works when the buttons hide property is not selected.
            I can hide the button with the display;none property and it still works but there is a blank space where the button is placed.

            So for now i will have to keep firing the action javascript generated function from my callback which is OK except when the function name changes.

            I am using the latest release 3375-4095. I am starting to think this is a bug. There is no reason this should not work.

              Re: click a button from javascript

              I'm not sure if it's a bug or not because there are a lot of instances within alpha where you can't simply hide something or else you lose access to it or it messes stuff up.
              My guess is that "hiding" it actually stops it from rendering at all.

              Could you place your button some place where the space won't matter or be noticable?
              Or could you change this to be an onclick event of something else on your component?
              Just trying to think of other options for you.

                Thanks Jinx,

                This is a small component, a dialog just large enough to have some controls to set the report output so the there is no unused space. I've gone ahead and submitted a bug report. I'll see what happens.

                  Selwyn say the buttonClick method is working properly. I guess I don't understand the limitations. Obviously you can't use in the manner that I tried.

                    Re: click a button from javascript

                    Code to trigger the on click event of a button will not work if the Hide property for the button is checked. I handle this by putting 1=2 in the Client Side Show/Hide expression for the button. This causes the button to be hiddend AND code to trigger the on click event of the button will work.

                        Thank you, I tried that and it works like you said but it leaves a blank space in my component which I don't want.

                          Re: click a button from javascript

                          Hey Frank,

                          Your blank space is most likely caused by the Horizontal Spacing (default .1) in the button you're hiding. Take that out and your space will be gone. The Show/Hide expression will get you the button click since the control is still rendered. Show/Hide is like setting Display:None.

                          The image attached does show a space between the text fields. The first set of text fields have no other control between them. The space is there because of the Horizontal spacing of the Static Text fields.

                          The second set of Static Text fields has BUTTON_1 between them which fires when button 2 is clicked. Button_2 is firing {dialog.object}.buttonClick('BUTTON_1');
