Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    error on startup

Not sure what this is about - Alpha 10 has been running fine for a few years - now, if you open either the full or the runtime version of alpha (with or without an app being loaded, also) _ get the message - see pic

I found a thread in a search, but the link to the thread no longer exists

any idea - must be something else causing the problem

Note: the program and/or app will still run after clicking OK, but is aggravation for the user.

    Any ideas?

Try reregistering the a5controls.dll in the program directory.
    There can be only one.

Stan - here is a batch file I ran that points correctly, but DOES NOT fix the issue

      regsvr32.exe "c:\alpha\a5v10 runtime\SimpleChart4Lite.dll" /s
      regsvr32.exe "c:\alpha\a5v10 runtime\Codejock.PropertyGrid.v11.1.3.ocx" /s
      regsvr32.exe "c:\alpha\a5v10 runtime\Codejock.ReportControl.v11.1.3.ocx" /s
      regsvr32.exe "c:\alpha\a5v10 runtime\Codejock.SuiteCtrls.v11.1.3.ocx" /s
      regsvr32.exe "c:\alpha\a5v10 runtime\Codejock.TaskPanel.v11.1.3.ocx" /s
      regsvr32.exe "c:\alpha\a5v10 runtime\a5controls.dll" /s
      regsvr32.exe "c:\alpha\a5v10 runtime\a5contexteval.dll" /s
      regsvr32.exe "c:\alpha\a5v10 runtime\XBasicActiveScripting.dll" /s

PS: also ran it for the full version, to. They both come up with that message when I open either the full or runtime - with or without an app also being loaded

        Re: error on startup

reinstalled as administrator, ran batch file, etc - still no luck
out of about 20 work stations, this is the only one that has the errormust be something in windows
was working fine Friday, but Monday has the error
        its a W7 64, but a lot of the W/S's are also W7 64 - baffled!

uninstalled and cleared the registry - reinstalled from scratch - so it is almost certainly a windows issue - maybe an update

          Re: error on startup

Have you tried to register the files manually and one at a time? or take the /s off so you will see whether they take or not?

Have you searched the registry for any of the files? Now, I don't know how they get registered in the registry - never looked.

Can you export the registry entries(where these entries are and alpha software) off another like system and import them to this one or at least compare them?

Be sure to back up the registry first!

Whoa, there are 2 batch files. One is for xp and back(RegisterFiles.bat). the other is for win7(RegisterFilesVistaWin7.bat) like you have.

Martin, please clarify your last. What, specifically, was "restored"? Thanks.

                  Hi Tom

Guess I might have been more explicit - I did a windows restore

That took you back to a prior date, but what messed it up to begin with? Just curios, because it may happen to someone else.

Added a software, system crash, win updates???????

                      Any ideas???

                        Re: error on startup

Well ..... in updates I noticed that there was a massive Windows update, maybe 30+ updates - so I made a new restore, and installed the updates, but Alpha still works OK, and as far as I know there were no new programs installed, as I am the one on that computer who installs software. So I don't have a clue.
