Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Linking a Dialog to another Dialog like a Linked Grid/Content

Need to link a bunch of dialog's together, I have created then a top level on the receiving dialog which contains the primary key of the calling dialog, tried for 4 hours yesterday using action scripting on the server side to create session variables to pass the primary key value from the calling dialog to the one called, but no matter what the value is not there at the receiving instance of the called dialog.

    Anybody got any ideas?

Look at video D58 (http://news.alphasoftware.com/v11preview/videos_v11.htm) and set up arguments.
To refresh parent rows, I would recommend you set up javascript globals which contain the componentname and rownumber of each respective parent record.
However, I do wonder if daisy-chaining dialogs is an ideal scenario.

Thank you for replying to my plead of help, the information on the videos is great, have seen then several times now, think I am much closer to a solution, but not there yet. Attached are 4 screen captures:
      • Definition of the arguments at the child dialog
      • Definition for the parent dialog to pass the argument values to the child
      • Debug session with the code to refresh the parent after the child dialog completed the update operation with the parentcomponent and rownumber arguments undefined, even though the whatid and an additional argument are populated
      • The 2 dialog screens on a working preview

Think that dialogs thought with a repeating section do not have the methods {rownumber} and {componentname} and for that reason the arguments are not being resolved.

Thanks for the help, hope you or someone else Knows how to make this work.

Installed the pre-release to have access to the documentation, and there is a new placeholder for component name {dialog.ComponentName}, but did not find an equivalent one for the rownumber. Never the less, debug it again several times and neither of then got their corresponding values.

By now already getting frustrated, their most be another way... Did a search on refresh repeating section and no results either...

          Juan,
Check the videos on how to deal with repeating rows and editing them.
Or you could consider using a grid for your list of recipes.
          Andy.

Thank you Andy, it be much easier if I could use a grid, but my database has many reference fields where I only have a pointer to the data that need be displayed and have not found how to add an unbound data fields yet to a grid so I could hide the reference field and display the results of my lookup on the unbound field.

I am still trying, not giving up easily...

Suppose you have a query in a grid: SELECT cust_id FROM .....

To add an unbound field: SELECT cust_id, '' AS custname FROM .....
Then in field properties, set it as *unbound, but updateable.

OR, in your DB environment, create a view with all the fields you wish and use that as the grid query.
