There is a another part of Alpha 5 that very few know exist, mostly because Alpha doesn't promote it as they should. This part allows one to develop on the desktop with web components and it can be a very nice, good looking, quick and dirty way to get an app up and running with lots of features in less time than doing it on just the desktop. ....

And it will all run in the Runtime?
Please share some examples of of these components Ken..nn it sounds very interesting

I wondered when someone would ask. Open a form, any form, it makes no difference. Put a button on it and use action scripting. Open the category and select Web Components. Now simply choose which component you want to open.

Another way to do it is to create a form and use the super control to put a web component on it. This method allows a bit more freedom in that you can use desktop objects along with the web component.

While I haven't put it in RunTime, there's no reason why it shouldn't work and my reasoning is this. Alpha placed them there to use on the desktop and I have not read anything from Alpha that says it can't.

So, there you have it. The best of both worlds. If you want a 'quick and dirty' way to get an app up and running with minimal work and yet good looking, this is it. Then, as a bonus, any of the grids, dialogs, etc. that are used can also be used in the web app. Now, if that isn't a time saver, what is? Selwyn and his crew have blended the web and the desktop. Maybe it should be called, the Alpha5 Web Top?

Foot Note: In regards to the first method, using a button to open a web component, this is from Alpha's Jerry Brightbill:

When a component is opened on the desktop in a window, it is actually in an xdialog. The genie allows adding any xdialog controls either above of below the component, so you can add a close button if you wanted to the "Xdialog-below" property

Since the window is an xdialog, you can also add an event handler to "Xdialog- event handler" to handle the standard xdialog button action.

Yep, works OK using the Alpha Installer. Aren't we all such trusting souls!

Unless you REALLY want to go back to post#14

Using 2600 records across three 1:1 linked tables to create a comprehensive table 0f 21 thousand that takes 51 seconds.

It may interest many that after a LOT of experimentation with optimising code, substituting

Sthr.enter_begin()
Sthr.enter_end()

with

sthr.enter_record(pvar)

has reduced the time taken to build and populate the table of 21 000 records from 51 seconds to 24 seconds - better than 50% speed increase

and TIC ((tongue in cheek)) If Jetson Lilibeth has finished his trial and has paid for Alpha5, and Jetson Lilibeth is still reading this forum and Jetson Lilibeth's ten friends have subscribed, they might all be interested too.
