Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Refresh parent grid from dialog - should be simple

    I am blind from trying to solve this (seemingly) simlple issue.

    I have not been able to get a parent grid to refresh from a dialog (set as modal popup) that was opened to ADD a record to the grid.

    Sounds basic. Should be basic. I do the usual syntax in afterDialogValidate after the built-in “save” function:

    e.javascript = e.javascript + ”var po={dialog.object}.getParentObject();po.refresh();”

    But it doesn’t refresh the parent grid!

    I don’t know why this doesn’t work for me from a dialog object.

    Am I going crazy and missing something really simple? Anyone having this problem?

    Andy.

    Re: Refresh parent grid from dialog - should be simple

    BTW...The reason for wanting to refresh the parent grid is to avoid the new entry being shown at the bottom of the grid as an "extra" record. In other words, when a record is added to a grid set to display 10 items only, the new item becomes the 11th item in the grid (assuming more than 10 records exist). This is not ideal behavior for me, I need to refresh in order to re-paginate properly.
    Does anyone else see this behavior when using a dialog to add a new record to a grid?

      Andy,

      Have you tried the Window Javascript Events in the Action Javascript builder that opens the dialog? If you scroll all the way to the bottom of that action script builder and expand the Window Javascript Events and put the following code in the onHide event:

      var parentObj = {dialog.Object}.getParentObject();
      if (typeof parentObj != 'undefined') {
      parentObj.refresh();
      }

        O.k. - I got it. The answer is simple, but not entirely intuitive. Dan, thanks for your suggestion as it helped point to this workaround.

        In either the onBeforeHide or onHide js event (within the calling Action Javascript builder), put:
        {grid.Object}.refresh();

        You might expect to use the above parent refresh script, but the context is the calling grid!!! (not the child component).

        But, I am still baffled as to why it doesn't work from the e.javascript var as I mentioned earlier. I would like to here the reason for this. Could someone try and confirm whether the e.javascript return script works (for NEW records via dialog2 component)?

        e.javascript = e.javascript + "var po={dialog.object}.getParentObject();"
        e.javascript = e.javascript + "if (typeof po != 'undefined') { po.refresh(); }"

          Re: Refresh parent grid from dialog - should be simple

          How could you define the grid rownumber in the onBeforeHide or onHide js event so that

          {grid.Object}.refreshrow(rownum);

          could be used instead of {grid.Object}.refresh();

            Re: Refresh parent grid from dialog - should be simple

            I found the answer:
            var rowNum = {Grid.Object}._selectedRow;

            My grid has a linked grid that I'd like to refresh in this same event. I'm now looking for how to reference it.

              Try:

              {grid.Object}.refreshLinkedContent();
