Discussion: A Developer's Journey from Visual FoxPro to Alpha Five v11, after evaluating IronSpeed, Iceberg, FileMaker, and Servoy
Hi All,
I tried Iron Speed and LightSwitch before I made my final move to Alpha a year ago. With LightSwitch, I did not get the desired results and it was really limited. With Iron Speed I was limited to 40 trials and it took control of my database while inserting stored procedures.
Before that I worked 2 years on .Net, developing smart client applications using StrataFrame framework and could not use them for web site development.
For more than 20 years before the above I worked with Visual FoxPro until MS killed it. I developed several commercial products using Visual FoxPro including Report and Query Engine.
Since 1982 I worked on dBase III from Ashton Tate and moved to FoxBase and grew with the product until it got to Visual FoxPro 9. It was a miracle that MS actually continued up to that version.
I also worked extensively on MS SQL database dealing with TB of data and you can see the below blog on that as well.
It took me some struggle until I found Alpha five and for me it is the ultimate development environment. I dont need a general purpose development tool like Visual Studio for .Net. I need a data centric tool that gets the job done very quickly with minimum efforts and Alpha Five for me has it all.
