Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    I would also like to know if you roll back to the update before 3044 does the issue go away?

      This might sound stupid, but have you tried clearing the cache? That messes me up sometimes on upgrades.
      Here are my headers and my grids work fine:
      <meta HTTP-EQUIV="MSThemeCompatible" content="Yes" />
      <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge" />
      <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />

        I deleted the A5W page and rebuilt it and that fixed the issue.

          Here is a test case. I have an online application that looks great in Firefox but Explorer blows it up entirely. I am out of ideas on how to fix it. It is really embarrassing for my site. It looks like Explorer ignores containers on all of my dialogs.

            Re: Issue With Internet Explorer - Please Assist!

            Your A5W page doesn't have a DOCTYPE which is considered mandatory. The rest of the problem is probably just css. Your container that has the two side-by-side data-entry areas does not have a specific width set, neither do the two data-entry areas. Those are both set to float:left, so I bet the right-hand area is slipping under the left one. Your background with the rounded corners is an image of fixed size inside a table, so it is probably "repeating" at the bottom of your bad page where you see the top repeated.

              Thank you Steve. I got into the habit of testing in Firefox exclusively and didn't pay attention to IE until it was too late. But I am curious as to why Firefox renders correctly but not IE. Is Firefox more forgiving? Is IE too strict?

                I'm not a CSS expert but I have struggled through it to the point I don't have any issues with layout. The first thing you need to do is add an appropriate DOCTYPE. Second is play with the width of your containers and make sure they fit side-by-side. <<Is Firefox more forgiving? Is IE too strict?>> They are just different and it can depend on browser version, etc.

                  Re: Issue With Internet Explorer - Please Assist!

                  Steve, I borrowed the DOCTYPE from your site,: AlphaToGo.com and it was the magic fix. Thank you.

                  <!doctype html public "-//w3c//dtd html 4.01 transitional//en" "http://www.w3.org/tr/html4/loose.dtd">

                  The containers behaved without modification. The only thing I had to do was put fixed widths on a few textboxes and buttons to keep them sized.

                    FYI, I am slowly moving to use the new HTML5 DocType, which is just:

                    <!DOCTYPE html>

                    So far it is working out on all pages.

                      My standard dialog button won't render in IE9 --->button.gif

                      Has anyone else seen this behavior?

                      UPDATE: I turned off advanced button styling and that was the fix needed.
                      However watermarks and calculated fields are not working. AaCk!

                      UPDATE2: All works well now after the inclusion of this in my a5w page:
                      Code:
                      <!DOCTYPE html>
                      <head>
                      <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/>

                        our testing shows that the UX component controls all render properly in IE8 and above.

                        can you send a test component that you think does not render properly in IE9?

                          Just adding to the conversation.

                          I am using Alpha Anywhere to rebuild my web apps.

                          I have had nurmerous issues with opeing a UX component from a grid button on my pages.

                          UX opens with no data, Look up fields dont work, Submit button wont render properly,

                          At another site the Web pages work as expected usign IE verion 10. But at another location where the restrictons of the users is to only use IE 8 the pages wont respond as required.

                          I have tried to change the DOC type and tried all compatability modes e.g. specify IE=EmulateIE7, Specify IE=5, IE=7, IE=8 or IE=9 (None of whcih have solved this problem).

                          Does any one else have these issue with web pages, any other suggestiosn to have them render properly??

                          I have run out of options?

                            please create a simple test case that does not work for you and we will test it to see if we can duplicate the issue. you can submit this test case by going to help/send a bug report.

                              Dears All,
                              After I suffered from this issue, and still this issue until the last build in V11 "Build 3381-4096".
                              Finally I get from your thread the solution,
                              story is when this META tags:

                              <meta HTTP-EQUIV="MSThemeCompatible" content="Yes" />
                              <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge" />
                              <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
                              Is automatically Move to the bottom of the <%a5 %> component definition when you add new component to the page in the HEAD tag, so all you have to do is to remove this META tags just after the open HEAD tag, and the grid will work fine with all IE versions.
                              Best Regards,
