Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Issue With Internet Explorer - Please Assist!

    Lindsay,

    I have had plenty of issues with Internet Explorer myself .. it can be very frustrating.
    One thing that I did which helped me was to explicitly set the document compatibility mode, Alpha automatically sets this on my home page to "IE=Edge" mode which according to Microsoft should not be used.
    Take a look at this thread, it may or may not help your situation .... http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...+compatibility

      Re: Issue With Internet Explorer - Please Assist!

      I too am having this problem. I uploaded a page with a simple search grid http://ablejobs.us/job-search.a5w that works fine in Firefox but absolutely not in IE9 with default security settings. This page is mission critical and absolutely MUST work in IE9. What is the solution?

      Thanks in advance!

        mvaughn, I had to include a disclaimer link at the top of our database page, with this video linked. The only way we could get it to work was to guide our users to use "compatability mode" in IE9.

          mvaughn / Lindsay -

          Thanks for the Compatibility Mode tip :)

          But there is something else going on too I believe, as I have an app that uses the search in a similar manner to mvaughn's site, but mine works just fine in IE 9 without CM enabled. However, mine is within a pane in a Tabbed UI so I don't know if that makes the difference or not.

          Cheers!

            UPDATE:

            To test the Tabbed UI theory, I put the components on an A5W page and published just that; doesn't work at all in IE 9, CM on or off! ???

            Just fine in FF, Chrome and Safari (Mac) and an iPad 2 with iOS 6. Go figure! :)

              Re: Issue With Internet Explorer - Please Assist!

              This is not a issue with IE this is issue with Alpha. IE has been so many years in market so everybody knows it's history. So it is not a surprise for javascript framework developers that IE is a little different thing. Therefore Everything has to be tested with major browsers. That is why YUI and jQuery for example works also with IE. They have make it work.

              So if something does not work with IE using Alpha it is clearly Alphas issue. This incompatible issue with IE surprises me because Alpha is made with Visual Studio, Alpha Five has .NET integration and soon code runs in IIS. So why it does not work with IE?

                    Lindsay, did you submit a bug report on this? If so, did Alpha respond?

                      Just for laughs and giggles, did you try manually setting the emulation in the page header to say IE8?

                        Re: Issue With Internet Explorer - Please Assist!

                        I have had the experience with IE that things such as you're experiencing here can be caused by the users having pop-up blocking turned on. As soon as they turned off pop-up blocking, things worked fine. IE9 may have pop-up blocking turned on by default, or there may be some group policy at your workplace that turns it on automatically.

                          Just place this meta tag near the top of your A5W page, just after the HEAD tag.

                          <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />

                            I can't say why it is that you needed to put this meta tag in:

                            <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />

                            in place of this meta tag that we automatically add:
                            <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible content="IE=edge" />

                            however, i can say that i have never seen any problem with searching in IE (all version of IE).

                              We noticed that this started happening with build 3044-4041. I've put those meta tags in the A5W page and it doesn't help. What I can't understand is how this works in live preview, but not on the local host or on my server. I've compared all files in all places and everything seems to be exactly the same.

                              With this build we are having issues where things that used to work but now don't. However, the various browsers will perform some features. Search works in Chrome, Firefox not IE9.
                              I have a small JS Function. Doesn't work in Firefox, works in IE9 and Chrome.

                              I'm still looking for answers...

                                I just tested search in IE again, and again it is working fine.

                                Until we can reproduce the issue, there is nothing we can do.

                                If you can send me a test case that allows me to duplicate the issue, that would be great.
