Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    SELECT *

    INNER JOIN limits limits
    ON transaction.TRANSACT_ID = limits.TRANSACT_ID
    ORDER BY transaction.LOCAL_INSURED, transaction.COVERAGE, limits.TERM_START

I do have several search part filter expressions but that is not my issue. Our App server just stops responding to all clients with no error message or log entry. It can happend and does even when no one is logged in. I have tried Always up as a fix and it works well. Always up will restart the App server many times a day if it becomes stuck for about a minute.

Re: ***FRUSTRATED***** Application Server Stops working Daily

My issue with Always up is the data a user could be entering would be lost on random restarts. If the user is already past the search part and moved on to another grid they wouldn't experience the error stated above. Only when they came back to the first step to search again would they be dead in the water. At no other data entry step are they searching...

Work flow loosly is Search - Determine if record already exists - if not - New Record - Save - move to limits - enter limits - save - go back to search.

I actually got the same exact error yesterday from A5 "An unhandled exception (c0000005) was generated." The last few builds of A5 has been crashing on me quite a bit. Luckily the stand alone application server has been rock solid. I have not found any procedure to reproduce these errors it just seems to happen randomly.

Re: ***FRUSTRATED***** Application Server Stops working Daily

My Always up just restarts the App Server if it stops responding. Of couse that means all my clients are kicked out but if it did not restart they would not have any access to save what they were working on anyway. This has been a pain in my side for a year. We cannot re-produce it so no soup for me!

I'm running Always UP...curious about settings. Most of them are self explanatory but the Monitor section is a bit trial and error. Does anyone have any best practices for these settings?

I've application servers running Apache that run for months on end without a hiccup. I understand they are moving to IIS but still...
My A5 application server has not crashed in a long time. Well over several months. It is not a problem with the application server. I do not have to restart the server ever. The last time I re-started was when the latest official patch was released. Of course my application is not public and I only have approx 10 users.

Build 2736 did crash daily, but need it because json functions. Now build 2765 is running second day without any crash so huge progress I would say.

How much memory usage is your A5 app servers using? I am having the problem where it is running out of memory on my alpha hyper basic host and is crashing. After about 6 hours of running my A5 application server is using 355 megs of memory. At the end of each day the A5XbasicErrorStackLog.txt starts filling up with out of memory errors.

Just an update...I've tried and removed AlwaysUP. This did not help or fix the issue. As for the Config...1vCPU with 3GB RAM. I am seeing a CPU spike every time a user searches on any grid.

Available RAM is always sitting around 2GB with PF Usage < 500MB. I wish it was a RAM issue. RAM is cheap enough to toss in.

BTW I am using Application Server 2765_3967

That is supposed to happen; its only a problem if it spikes, and then stays high after the activity has ceased.

Thanks Steve...I assumed so given it drops back down to nothing every time the search completes but "assuming" isn't always good. I'm tempted to uninstall the Application Server and install the Full Download to see if something changes. Not sure if that will have any detrimental affect.

Ok...when the error was happening CPU was 0 - 2% and RAM in use was 8GB so I don't believe it is a resource issue.

Re: ***FRUSTRATED***** Application Server Stops working Daily

Some early builds of A5V11 did have a memory leak. After considerable testing and refinement, all known leaks were fixed by the last production release, 2765_3967. Memory usage has been shown to be very stable in that build.

However, some recent changes in the pre-release builds introduced a new issue. With some samples and information provided by Luke, we were able to isolate and fix the problem. The fix should be in the next pre-release build.
