Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Web Project Properties - E-Mail Config...

Has anyone been able to get E-mail configuration working with anything other than G-Mail? I can confirm E2K3 server SMTP port and service are both active. I can telnet from the any workstation to the mail server and run commands against it (EHLO, MAIL FROM, etc.)

Alpha just gives a general error when trying to send the message. Yet, TELNET confirms it everything is working properly.

I'm probably not going to be able to tell you anything more than my settings, but I'm using it successfully with a basic POP3 email provider.

SMTP works with Google but MS AD Domain with Enterprise Exchange servers is a different animal. Authentication...MS accepts DOMAIN\USERNAME or [email protected]. Neither of these seem to work. Or at least a generic "there was an error sending the e-mail" message appears. My assumption is authentication issues. How is Alpha passing the password? Clear text? When the button is pressed to send the message....does that happen at the workstation level or the server handles?

I've got the problem - I think the MS Updates has knocked out the SMTP. - All my emails that have been working have now stopped, gets rejected instantly, even ignored time-out. I'll report it. Has anyone else seen this or have a solution? All mine have stopped working. SMTP_SEND Fails instantly. Had it verified on another server running 2549 3903 and it fails from March and it used to work.

I can get the email to send using smtp if I put in the whole email address in the send to. If I put in the field that holds the users email address it tries to send an email to the MS domain that I have and not @hotmail.com, @gmail.com, etc. Not sure why it is doing that

I don't believe this is an MS issue. I downloaded and tried a simple SMTP server and the results were the same.

                http://www.softstack.com/freesmtp.html

From Telnet I can see the connections to the server. From the Alpha Grid I never see the connection or even log an attempt at connection. I've tried specifying the SMTP server by both name and IP address. No change. When the e-mail is sent is the connection made from the web server or from the grid or dialog that is on the connected clients machine?

You should both please try the latest pre-release patch. There was a bug fixed that was causing certain characters to be improperly encoded. I suspect this may be what is causing your problems.

Have you rolled back that security update and tested again? Unfortunately there are no details from Microsoft regarding any changes in operation.

                      Joe,

It's simple. Add the ip address so that the exchange server knows it's allowed to relay for the A5 server. You can bypass potential authentication issues this way. What version of exchange are you running and I can give you specific instructions. I manage several exchange servers and have several A5 apps that use the exchange server to relay mail for them so I know it can work.

                      Thanks

After you add the ip address to the allowed to relay list, you need to remove the authentication information as it will no longer be needed. You also may need to create a transport rule that will relay e-mail outside of your domain. I have had to do that. It's a quick and easy thing. I can provide specific instructions for that as well if needed.

                          Hi Josh...

E2K3. Thanks I've already added the IP address to allow it to relay but no avail. We're in the process of migrating away from Exchange so this will change again for us. Even using the simple smtp server that I posted a link for you never see Alpha make a connection attempt. If it did I should see it in the log files regardless of the SMTP server being used. In M$ would I should see failed relay events in my logs.

Lenny...I will try but I'm always leery of using beta packages as it can introduce new and bigger issues. Has anyone else tested the beta package and have they found any new issues?

Are the A5 and the exchange server's on the same LAN/subnet?

I am assuming you have created a telnet session between the A5 server or your development box and have been able to relay successfully that way. With that being the case it's not a firewall issue.
