Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Google Makes Subtle Change to Google Maps - Breaks Maps in Grids and Dialogs

Google changed the API for Google Maps today. While it appears the the change was very subtle, it caused maps in the Grid and Dialog component to break.

We have made changes in the Grid and Dialog to work with the changes Google made, and the fix will be in the next update.

If you want the update immediately, please download and unzip into your Alpha Five program folder.
    http://downloads.alphasoftware.com/a...te/aex_v11.zip

Before installing the above files, please install the latest pre-release update.
Then install the zip file in the above link.

Does it throw an error message of some sort ?

I just checked one of my apps, and while it is nothing spectacular,
the basic google map still functions.

The other app I've been working on is throwing a this.initQueue.length error,
even on dialogs that haven't changed for at least 2 weeks.

I did the following, and I'm really not complaining that it still works.
Did another checkin with my iphone.
Using a different computer, I cleared everything from the cache.
Then loaded up my page to check the google map.
It even lets me zoom in/out and move it around.

I wish. I asked about error messages because my other
app using google maps is completely broke.

                  A bit strange.
My work that hadn't been adjusted since March 20 still displayed
the google-maps, although if I tried to use working preview, I got
                  that horrible error message.

After installing todays patch, both projects are working and
                  editable.

Re: Google Makes Subtle Change to Google Maps - Breaks Maps in Grids and Dialogs

I noticed this google maps behavior yesterday morning, so I'm glad there is a fix. However, I followed Selwyn steps, plus I did the following.
                    1. Installed the pre-release update.
                    2. Unzipped update in the a5v11 folder.
                    aex_v11_updated_files.png
                    3. Rebooted server, re-started Alpha
                    4. Saved grid and uploaded, but problem persists.

Anything step I'm missing please let me know.

you can just download this morning's pre-release build and run the installed. that will install the correct .aex files and you won't have to do anything else.

the hot fix instructions we released yesterday were just temporary until this morning's pre-release build came out with an installer that you can run.

It looks like Google reverted back to their old paradigm because Google maps now work in Alpha and I'm still using build 2534-3899.
