Has anyone noticed that the SQL Genie, SQL Select, and SQL Builder don't work together in the Dialog builder. One erases the content of the other, a variable mapped in SQL Genie doesn't stay mapped in the SQL Builder and I can't even map one in the SQL builder without it throwing an error message. Unless I'm missing something, it's unusable for anything other than a basic operator (=, <=, etc.)
Here's what I'm trying to do but finding impossible.
I have a dropdown box where a user will pick from a list of part program names. The names may be something like this: 1234-BU-OP1
I don't want the end of it so I have a hidden calculation field that would trim that number down to: 1234-B
Next I will have a dropdown box populated from a different database using the calculated string above as a filter.
So, what I want to do is query my database to search for something LIKE the character string in my hidden calculation field.
This should give the user a dropdown box with selections tailored to the information they've entered previously.
So, I can pass my variable from my calculated field to the query as long as I use ONLY the SQL Genie on the first tab and check filter data but the only operators availlable are the basic ones. There's no LIKE. If I go to the SQL builder I can use LIKE; sure enough, but there's no way to pass my variable because alpha errors out every time I try to define it. For example; here's my query when I first start up the builder....
When I try to execute it, alpha pops up with a box that says: "Undefined arguments" a5fn_Number, type undefined, value undefined
There is no option to set it to my hidden field value like there is in the Genie. Even if I try to give it a value I get an error from Alpha: Script:UI_DLG_BOX:@A5_SQLGenie_82822900 line:635 tabChange_preview(lv) Not found pargs not found.
If I instead try to write the query by hand, either the SQL Genie or the Builder overwrite it with whatever B.S. they think they should be using at the time. Unless I'm missing something, this makes things impossible.
Here's what I actually want:
This is very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.
