Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Yup, it works w. dbf. But you have to make sure that your "empty" lat/long fields are not 0, otherwise you get a marker(s) at the equator.

      Re: Link Map to DBF?

      Hi Gregg,

      Not yet but I'm working on it. The video FP11_DLGMAP6 covers several topics at the same time, making it rather difficult learn from it, in a step by step approach.

      The map is shown below a repeating section and the function is fired as each row gets focus.

      Question, must it be a repeating section?

      The main function in the Javascript functions is the following:
      Code:
      function setMap() {
      	var lat = {dialog.Object}.getValue('lat');
      	var lng = {dialog.Object}.getValue('lng');
      	var address = {dialog.Object}.getValue('address');
      	if(A5.map.initState == 1) {
      		var m1 = {dialog.object}.getControl('m1');
      		m1.addMarker('marker1',[lat,lng], {
      			title: address,
      			detail: {
      				has: true,
      				data: address
      			}
      		});
      		m1.viewMarkers('marker1');
      		m1.setZoom(17);
      	}
      }
      Hope this gives you something to chew on.

      Peter, please can you show us how you did it.

        Keith I used a grid. Haven't done mapping in a dialog. Sorry.

          Hi Keith

          I just got long and lat to work with my dbf table. Attached is a simple sample of my database. I hope this helps you.

          I'm really interested in your script to get the long and lat values for an address. Would you be able to send me a sample?

            Hi Melvin,

            I first created 3 fields, Address, Longitude and Latitude. I set the address as calculated with the following expression

            ALLTRIM(ADDRESS1)+","+ALLTRIM(ADDRESS2)+","+ALLTRIM(ADDRESS3)+","+ALLTRIM(COUNTY)+","+ALLTRIM(POSTCODE). I first did a recalc, then ran the xbasic code in message #7. As there were over 2000 records, it took about 10 minutes to process the table.

            I shall now look at your sample.

                  Keith,

                  There's nothing to it. Just use an alternate view and see the settings highlighted in the attached image...

                      The Map is linked under "Alternative View".

                      Slightly off topic, but is there a way to hide the circle radius until the user clicks on a specific icon?

                        Re: Link Map to DBF?

                        Keith,

                        Right now, I have a dialog that does not use repeating rows.
                        It shows the locations for 3 points, Pickup, Delivery, and Base.

                        I'm not sure if this will help you much, but it certainly shouldn't hurt.
                        I'd attach the dialog itself, but there are a lot of controls on that would just get in the way.

                        Code:
                        function maporder(){

                        var pklat = {dialog.object}.getValue('pickup_lat');
                        var pklon = {dialog.object}.getValue('pickup_lon');
                        var dllat = {dialog.object}.getValue('delivery_lat');
                        var dllon = {dialog.object}.getValue('delivery_lon');
                        var m1 = {dialog.Object}.getControl('mapit');
                        var pun = {dialog.object}.getValue('pickup_name')+'\n'+{dialog.Object}.getValue('pickup_address')+'\n'+{dialog.Object}.getValue('pickup_city')+' '+{dialog.Object}.getValue('pickup_statcode');
                        var dun = {dialog.object}.getValue('delivery_name')+'\n'+{dialog.Object}.getValue('delivery_address')+'\n'+{dialog.Object}.getValue('delivery_city')+' '+{dialog.Object}.getValue('delivery_statcode');
                        var bun = 'BASE'

                        m1.addMarker('pickup',[pklat,pklon],{

                            The code is for a dialog.

                            At a minimum, it expects data for 2 addresses (pickup and delivery).
                            The data for Base is static.

                            I haven't done much with the different layers yet, but I really expect
                            I will before long.

                            I just realized that it assumes you have lat/lon information, but I think
                            you already said you have that.
