Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Email when record inserted

    Hi Guys,
im having a little trouble with setting up the grid to send an email when a new record is added.

in the server side events i have added the following code to the after insert record area.

    function AfterInsertRecord as v (e as p)
    addr = "[email protected]"
subject = "A new Hazard has been INDENTIFIED AT gelor"
body = " a new hazard has been added to the DSPLINK HSE sytem for the site GELOR. Please login to view and action this hazard Please do not reply to this email."
    email_send(addr,subject,body)

    end function

    But nothing seems to happen.
When using the code editor funtion i get the following error.

""ERROR: Mismatched end of loop or if-block""

Where am i going wrong. Any help would be great

    Thanks
    Roland

        Hi Roland,

I don't see any sign of action-scripting in the code you posted.
There should at least be a line that resembles this : ExecuteServerSideAction("Send E-mail Message::Send_an_e_mail_message")

There is a recent thread that resembles what you're trying to accomplish.

        http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...ighlight=email

Take a look at the thread. I know RTFM sucks, but it still needs to be done once in a while.

Thanks Greg. Whilst I'm starting to make some good progress in A5 I'm still very new at all this. But hey I'm a security guard not a programmer :-).
I've had a look over that thread and done a little more searching and I'm now convinced there maybe a problem with my email settings. One of the threads has a reference to checking an smpt log to see why the emails ate not sending. Is that something you can help explain how to do.

Thanks For your time in replaying. It's much appreciated.

I don't think the smtp logs are relevant yet.

Please post a screen shot of your email settings, and the action-script that sends the email.
If it displays your password, please somehow hide the password (nobody here needs the password).

You are missing a number of arguments for email_send()

Most noteably is the email profile name.

Note the documentation for email_send().. http://wiki.alphasoftware.com/EMAIL_SEND+Function

I use email_send2() and follow the example closely... http://wiki.alphasoftware.com/EMAIL_SEND2+Function

                Al,

Roland is a self-proclaimed newby still very much learning how to do things.
For that reason, I opted to help him with the action-script rather than writing the code for
smtp or smtp2, although I did post a dialog with such code during the past 2 weeks.

                  Hi Roland,

I was more interested in seeing those screenshots than seeing that other post deleted.

I understand the frustration of wanting to get something working but not knowing quite how to do it.

i haven't had time to set up any screen capture app at the moment.
But i have set up a button in the grid to send an email as a temp measure. Its working well so i assume the email setting are correct.

The code below is what I'm putting into the server side events for the grid. I hope its enough for you to see a problem

                          Thanks again
