Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Error loading a report

I have created a Report in Alpha V11 and published all the created files to a 2008 server. I call the report from a grid button. It tries to load the report but ends with the following error:

Report did not print. Error reported was:
'Alpha Five Printer' (for creating PDF, RTF and HTML output) is not installed. Re-install Alpha Five Application Server
I have reloaded the Alpha Five Application 4 times and made sure Adobe Reader was installed but I still get the above error. The printer is in the 'Devices and Printer' section. The data for the report comes from a MYSQL view.

Image shows the screens used to setup the loading of the image.

Does any one have an idea why I still get the above error?

I guess no one else has experienced this error message. Is there anyone that can give me some advise?

      Re: Error loading a report

It looks like the Alpha Printer only installs in the Remote session to the server when I install the Alpha Application Server. Does anyone know how to install the Alpha Printer to the server from a remote connection so all connections can see it?

        Re: Error loading a report

I'm variably getting the same message or this:

        Code:
Report did not print. Error reported was:
        Layout name: MyReportName@C:\A5Webroot\MyDatabaseName.alb
        Layout type: report
Just learned from my users this has been a problem for an unknown number of days. Yet everything once worked just fine, even with the current/latest patch.

Anyone know how to solve this?

          Steve
I am now getting a similar message:
Report did not print. Error reported was:

          Layout name: TotalsRep@C:\A5webroot\RetroCheck\retrocheckdb.alb
          Layout type: report
          Error communicating with printer
I have been working on the problem for over a week. I hope someone can help.

            Re: Error loading a report

I appear to have succeeded. Can never be sure exactly what made the difference, but the last steps I took were:

            - reboot the server, starting everything again.
            - Close the app server,
            - reinstall the latest patch,
            - start the app server again

You seem to have a slightly different message "Error communicating with printer" but as I noted I got a couple different messages for no reason apparent to me, so this may work.

By chance are you running AlwaysUp? I just installed it (V 8) for the first time and I started having printer issues after it working forever. I uninstalled and printer issues are gone. I don't have the time to play with always up now, but I suspect it has to do with privileges.
