Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

AlwaysUp v11 web app stops working

Running AlwaysUp to keep v11 web app running on ZebraHost server. After a few days and sometimes longer the web pages will stop performing. The main page is a a5w page. All of the buttons stop responding and an HTML5 animation stops loading.

    http://amandajones.net is the URL.

In the past I would have to delete the site and republish.

    It would start working again.

This time around the above procedure did not work.

In all occurrences I noticed that if I ran the app not under AlwaysUp it would work perfectly until the ZebraHost servers reboot, or the v11 server hangs. Then I have to deal with the A5V11 server not starting up. Hence the reason for running AlwaysUP.

Bottom line - if I run v11 as a service using AlwaysUp I can duplicate this error. To fix I must run the A5V11 app server manually.

I would appreciate it if any of you have seen this issue?

    Thanks,

Same here - don't know the answer... I'm all ears as well on this.

The AlwaysUp developer lives in my county and he is pretty responsive. If you have some more test data, I can send it to him for analysis.

I have been corresponding with AlwaysUP. Yes they have been quite responsive. The main reason for the post was to see if anyone else was experiencing what I have been.

        Cheers

In my experience, Alpha will hang when the size of the WAS grows to (in V11) somewhere between 300K and 500k. When it hangs, open Task Manager and check it out. If that's the reason, then you can set AlwaysUp to restart the server whenever that limit is reached.

Also, since your site has several public pages, it is probably getting hammered by bots. So, also look at the number of session folders that are in use. I have one site that routinely has 300 to 400 session folders open at any one time...mostly due to bots.

Both those conditions will be resolved by stopping and restarting the WAS.

Ok the guys over at AlwaysUp were quite responsive.

So far what I have learned is that the following steps work.

            1. Stop the AlwaysUp service for my v11 server.
            2. Run my v11 server manually (dbl click on the icon)
            3. Stop the v11 server and exit the system tray.
            4. Run the AlwaysUp service for my v11 server.

I will report back on how this is working.

            Cheers.

Re: AlwaysUp v11 web app stops working

The latest pre-release has some changes aimed at some issues when running under AlwaysUp, with some additional changes pending.

It is important to follow the recommendations suggested by AlwaysUp for monitoring as some settings can cause unexpected results. They recommend only monitoring by memory useage and perhaps restarting the program once a day late at night. Normal memory usage can be well over 500,000 k depending on the application design and features being used.

Just thought that I would add some notes on this. I gave up on AlwaysUp some time ago because it was kind of glitchy. Now I reboot my server via MS Server each night and ensure that my app server autoloads at reboot time. It's easy and ensures that I am always up!
