Hello:
This is a newbie question. In this Delphi related blog, it is stated that MS is dropping ADO/OLE-DB
support in favour of ODBC.
See:
http://blog.synopse.info/post/2012/0...-enjoy-ODBC%21.
"Microsoft is Aligning with ODBC for Native Relational Data Access
...
We encourage you to adopt ODBC in the development of your new and future
versions of your application. You don't need to change your existing
applications using OLE DB, as they will continue to be supported on Denali
throughout its lifecycle. While this gives you a large window of opportunity
for changing your applications before the deprecation goes into effect, you
may want to consider migrating those applications to ODBC as a part of your
future roadmap."
The original MS blog entry "Microsoft is Aligning with ODBC for Native
Relational Data Access" can be found at:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlnativecli...ta-access.aspx
Also, there is the Wikipedia OLE-DB article at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OLE_DB#Support_status .
"Support status
Microsoft's release of SQL Server 2012 (internal code: 'Denali') is the last
to include an OLE DB provider for SQL Server, but support will continue for
7 years.[1] According to a related Microsoft FAQ,[2] "Providers like ADO.Net
which can run on top of OLE DB will not support OLE DB once the latter is
deprecated", but the same answer in the FAQ states that the original post
relates only to the OLE DB provider for SQL Server, so the position of OLE
DB itself remains unclear. The same FAQ states that ODBC performs better
than OLE DB in most cases."
How does this development affect the future plans for Alpha Five, if at all?
Thanks,
Jerry
