Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Web Project Security timeout

How do I set the timeout of a web project that has the web security enabled? I set the value of Login Expiration Policy to "Defined time after last page access" and I set the Login Expiration time to 1 minute so I can see it works but it doesn't seem to work. I can access the site and with the TabbedUI I'm accessing a pcomponent and then I leave it for more then 1 minute and when I'm getting back to the page I can continue to work on it like thgere is no expiration policy at all.

    Any idea what I missed?

    Yigal -

What do you have the Session Lifetime (in minutes) set to in the WAS > Sessions tab?

My Tabbed UI kicks me out to the login page quite nicely after that value has elapsed without any activity if I then try to continue using the app :)

    Cheers!

      Re: Web Project Security timeout

Security is only applied to requests to the server. Because web apps are stateless, you can work in an open page or component in the local browser regardless of the conditions at the server. When you make any request to the server to submit data, open another component, or refresh any page or component, security is applied.

Also, component security should be turned on and security applied to every component

I set the security on the TabbedUI but not on the component itself. Do I need to set the securityon each of the web components that I'm referring to in the TabbedUI?

          I'm afraid so.

I set the security on each link in the tabbedUI but I couldn't find where I can set the security on the web component, the only thing related to security is the security model to be used and I set it to group based but it doesn't seem to work. I can open a session and leave it open for hours and when I come back it will still work instead of throwing me to the login page.

What else need to be done to make it work?

I'm not sure what to tell you exactly, but you should look at all the security settings in web security. There is page redirect, page security, component security, etc etc. If you have the server set to a session length of 15 minutes, and if you set a page redirect in security settings, and if your pages and components have security set and if you have published security and updated components it all should work as advertised. The WiKi has a lot of documentation on security, unfortunately much of it is outdated and haphazard. They really don't make it easy.

In the web control panel, you can right click on a web component where one of the options is to set the user group security for the selected component
