Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Frame border looks terrible in Windows 7

I'm hoping this is just a setting ...............................

I spent hours making nice looking grids for one of my applications using containers and frames, and they look great when displayed in IE 8 on a computer running Windows XP, but when viewed in IE 9 on a Windows 7 machine, the right side of the frame borders look jagged and terrible. (see screen shots)

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or has any idea how to make the frames look good in both operating systems? (I realize the browsers are two different versions, 8 & 9, but that is normal for the two different OS'es.)

It may not be the OS. It may be how IE8 renders the page vs IE9. Have you tried compatibility mode?

      Hi Joe

That was a good suggestion, but unfortunately it didn't make any difference.

What css style are you using for the Grid? check in Grid Properties. If you are using a "legacy" style there are problems with displaying them in various browsers. It may display perfectly in IE9 and look differently in Firefox or Chrome. The new styles fix this issue. They begin with Gr. i.e., GrBlue

What does it look like in Firefox?

          Hi Chet.

No I haven't tested it in Firefox or Chrome, because almost all of my users are police or fire departments, and they use Internet Explorer almost exclusively on agency computers, so having it work in Firefox or Chrome wouldn't help me any.

And yes I am using a legacy style, mainly because I use a lot of Date Pickers (Mini Calendars), and I've had multiple complaints about the "new style" date picker. Most all of my users (including myself) like the look and ease-of-use of the legacy Date Picker, which is not available in the new GR styles.

You can convert any legacy style to a new style in the style designer and modify it any way you like. This may resolve the issues with the different browsers and OS's. However, you better back up the original to a new name before modifying it.

Your problem almost has to be a css issue with the various browsers and OS's. The new styles handle these issues.
